Long Awaited Turbo build...

Tapping the oil pan= 1 Me= 0

Okay so still havent got this done, instructions size(3/8") is wrong for starters. After trips to home depot, advacned auto, and lowes its still not done. The biggest tap i could find (1/2") is still too small for the oil pan fitting. Also the biggest punch i found/had was too small as well. Tried all kinds of things to tap the hole but its still not big enough so i called it a day on that.

Day 2, what got done..

What did get accomplished today lol

For starters I loosened the header pipes and the vband lined up perfect. Next snag.. The vband is too thick to fit here:

So i had to trim the edge of the vband off so it would fit in there and still slip over both pipe ends.

Back under the car threw on copper sealant again and got the vband on and loosely snugged it.

The instrcutions call for leaving everyhting slightly loose till the end which is hard for me to do lol, but a very important step so, from here on out im going to leave it all loose till the end so it fits better.

Next i decided to play with the header wrap. First time doing it and it turned out pretty good i think. One note would be to use gloves so you dont get fiberglass fibers all in your hands, oh well... lol

Just wrapped the up and down pipes for now which is all i planned to do orignaly. Still have enough wrap for maybe 2 more connecting pipes, but im out of the supplied metal bandit straps for now.

Finished cutting a short piece of 3" pipe to finish off the intercooler to tb piping.

you have a picture of a 3/8-16 unc tap. A 3/8 pipe tap uses a bit over 1/2 dia tap drill size, like .510 dia. or near there

Another little snag, drivers side o2 bung location makes it difficult to install the sensor, not enough room between the pipe and the trans. Loosened the header connection bolts and finessed the pipe to get it on.

Didnt get far enough into the build to need any help lol
So i just did a bunch of little stuff today.

If i would have got this oil pan tap shit done I coulda moved on to installing the up pipe/turbo where i will need help.

Installed the oil feed/drain conenctions onto the turbo and found a connection that will fit the tap in the turbo to run the vac line from the turbo to wastegate.

Where can i get a 3/8" pipe tap?

cause pipe taps go off the inner diameter of the pipe, not the outside diameter like a machine screw. been a machinist for over 35 years, you wouldn't believe the strange shit thats in the machinist hand book...lol. you can get a 3/8 pipe tap at all the places you have been to..... , and pipe taps are on a 3/4 inch per foot taper. check the smalleest dia of the nipple you are using, if it is around 17/32"-9/16" then it is a 3/8 NPT (pipe thread) if it is bigger than that, then it is a 1/2 NPT

LOL i bet, thanks for the heads up, yeah im pretty sure its a 3/8" pipe tap then. And advanced auto had zero taps. Home depot had 1 brand die kit and 2 really small size indvidual taps, thats it i even asked. Lowes has a decent selection of kobalt taps and dies but they are all npt or nc not pipe thread taps.

I have a 3/8" npt tap and its too small. And the biggest punch i had was 7/16" still not quite big enough.
In the pic thats a 3/8" npt tap and the drain fitting is next to it, it measures 1/2" across.

Well since i gota order one i have to wait on shippign anyways...

Im pretty sure the hole is big enough already i just need the right size tap.

i have one if you want to have it shipped to you. you just pay the shipping both ways. but if you do that you can just buy one. i also have the punch if you need it.
