Sure, although the operating costs are a bit higher than a car or pickup. Fuel will cost double of what you would spend even with a pickup, and every single maintenance and repair item is more expensive than your average car. My C8500 with a Cat 3126 takes 20 quarts of oil and the air filters are $60 and $30 (yes, it has two air filters). Tires are about $500 each and last about 20K miles.

That about sums it up. Even though I would guess I will get 13-15 mpg empty, I will probably only put 5,000 miles a year on it.

Took it for a spin today.

The smoke mostly clears out after the turbo spools. After the pump mods, I picked up 40% more hp and tq. I spent some time trying to figure out the drivetrain loss for medium and heavy duty trucks. Every shop that I talked to said it's 30%. Using that number, the truck is now making 305hp and 714 ft lbs at the flywheel. I just finished installing the boost and EGT gauge. Empty, the highest I could get the EGT was 800 degrees and it now makes 26lbs of boost. Oh ya, I adjusted the governor so it now revs to 3100 RPMs.

At work we have a 66,000 lb truck with a CAT C13 ACERT 525hp running through an allison EVS 4000P. It was having some issues so the local CAT dealer put it on their dyno, and it put out 387 rwhp @ 1585 rpm. the 525 rating was for 1800 however, and at 1783 it put out 351 rwhp.

Depending on what hp # you want to use its around 26-34% loss on our truck through an auto.

Does that have a bosch MW pump?

heres a cool pdf about the MW pump:

Swap pumps out. P-pump FTW!!!

Those are so easy to hop up its unreal. And they can support an insane amount of power.

The P pump swap is really easy on the DT466. I might swap the turbo first though.

Its an inline injection pump that is easily modified and will support a good amount of power.

Ok, I have a question for everyone. Do I run the twin 5" stacks through the bed, or on the outside of the bed?

The factory CXT's had the exhaust on the side and it looks pretty good. If I run the exhaust through the bed, I lose the storage area.
