Messed up my rear gears...

Car has been making a bunch of odd sounds coming from the rear. Pulled the cover off and sure enough, metal chunks and bits everywhere. Cracked and chipped ring & pinion gear... It's pretty messed up.

The gears that broke were motive 4.10s.

Oh well, guess it's time to upgrade. What is a nice strong gear set? I think I will stay with 4.10s.

I guess now would be the time to upgrade my differential too... FRPP carbon clutch packs or the truetrac? Money is somewhat of a concern but if the truetrac is MUCH better than the frpp clutch packs then I may have to do that.

Lastly, will a fore precision rear cover fit with a fays2 watts link? If not what rear cover will fit?

We usually use Ford Racing gears here and have never seen such a problem! It could have been install related but its hard to say what really happend. I like the Eaton True Tracs and have been running one for about 3 years in my car. Its pretty nice for street use and great on the track. Id try the Fore cover if it wont fit LPW's low profile cover should definatly fit.

I don't know how far it is for you, but I have a guy in South WV who's gunna be doing my gears. I think his price was $600 for the gears and installed. He told me everything that includes but I forget. He's very extensive. He works for Modular depot, very nice guy. I can give you his contact if you'd like. He only uses FRPP gears too.

be sure change all bearings... they all will be compromised.

Ford Racing doesn't make them. Last I heard they were moving to all Motive gears. You can get more noise because of the cut of their teeth, most "whine" is installer error. Give the Fore cover a try and if it doesn't work ill trade ya my LPW + some cash

Dead serious, if you don't mind the turn around time as the covers on my car right now. I had the cover powder coated silver so it won't ever show any wear!

pinion angle would have just messed the pinion bearing up, sounds like it was not set up right or a bad ring set

Last i heard FRPP had switched back to making there gear sets. Motive had took over for quite some time making FR gear sets. If you get a newer model FRPP set you should get a genuine. Id say go for some Richmond gears. Also if you find the right installer, you can get a good deal. Had a set installed for $400 that included gears.

despite the damage i still drove it home after pulling it apart at work lol
