How would anyone know that? It amazes me how many people on the local forums can diagnose a failure without ever looking at the engine. On 101 octane, I doubt he lifted a head with 16lbs of boost and 15.5 degrees of timing. Like I mentioned in my earlier post, The tune needs to be very conservative due to the overly advanced cams. The cylinder pressure in this engine is very high because of this. I lowered the gain on the boost controller and suggest that it remain there until the camshaft issue could be addressed. 101 octane helps control detonation but it will not overcome 4032 alloy piston material. I'm not saying a piston failed but that's a shit ton of oil smoke. A lifted gasket would introduce coolant into the cylinder but probably not oil.

In the video, it did not appear your car nosed over. If it ate a piston, the car would have slowed very quickly due to the boost entering the pan. It almost looks like the smoke came from under the car.

I have a few questions;

Matt, did you crank up the gain on the boost controller or did you leave it
alone?

Was the smoke oil or coolant?

How bad did you overheat it yesterday?

Was it running hot during the race?

As you know, your cooling system sucks.

Call me later today so I can get more detail.

Marc, the people that posted that were there with Matt last night. Also, see that part about not being set in stone? They also said his valve cover breather blew off and coated his motor in oil.

Thats alot of fucking smoke and is that sparks i see in the smoke at the end? If he did blow the breather off then it sounds like he had excessive crankcase pressure which in turn likely found is way up the turbo drain hose and into he turbo blowing the seals and dumping oil in the cold and hotside of the turbo which could explain that much smoke. But this is just a guess, didnt look good thats for sure!

Sparks were from bottoming out on a little bump, nothing engine related. We were going very fast :2cents:

I don't understand beating on the car and not making sure everything was good and just taking it easy to make sure there were no issues!!!! smh even if it just lifted a head it's all getting torn down again I would imagine

Things we know:

Turbo is fine (or at least isn't blowing oil into the manifold)
Intake is dry of oil.
Smokes out valve cover
Blew off breather
Exhaust has lots of oil in it and oily smell
Engine doesnt really make any odd noises (points to it being okay mechanically)
Boost alarm went off (20 psi)

All of which point to head gasket. For some reason the motor didnt have studs in it (lol?)
Other then that... who knows. Gonna have to wait to be pulled apart to see.

Dont get me wrong I beat on my car but not after a fresh motor and everything has been on and off just sucks to see him keep breaking stuff when it could be prevented .. Also have only been through one stock motor and this is why I haven't turned up the boost up cause I don't have head studs... If I hurt this motor I'm done!!!

Check the downpipe for oil, if the hotside seal blew you will have black oil all in the downpipe, also sounds like it could be a ringland which would also overpressurize the crankcase.
