So for those of you who figured there was no way in hell to get your S197 to be competitive at the SBSO race......I've got some good news. Evan Smith just posted the newly revised rules for the 2008 race on the FFW board. Seems they want to get away from the eight and seven second race cars passing themselves off as street cars. New rules (especially the weight requirement) will let our S197 cars into the game. This will still be a high nine/low ten second deal but it makes the show much better than it was last year. Hell.....there were only four cars last year. Here are the new rules as Evan posted them.........

For now here are the rules:

2008 Pro 5.0.com SBS Rules
SBS is designed for 1979-Present street-legal Ford, Mercury and Lincoln vehicles including trucks.

• Engine: Small-block Ford (302 or 351) or modular engines only, any deck height or stroker kits allowed. No big-blocks or Cleveland engines.

• Heads: Windsor-style heads or factory modular only (Two-Valve, Three-Valve and Four-Valve conversions allowed. No Yates or Cleveland style heads allowed.

• Power Adders: Single power adders allowed, multiple units of same type allowed (i.e. twin-turbo, multi-stage nitrous).

• Street equipment: Must have valid registration and insurance for entered vehicle, no dealer tags. Working horn, wipers, turn signals, etc. (All items must be functional at time of tech inspection. No exceptions.)

• Exhaust: Must have full exhaust with mufflers and tail pipes that exit behind the rear tires. Lightning, Harley Davidson trucks and 2000 Cobra R may use factory-style side exhaust.

• Transmission: Production OE-style transmission from any manufacturer allowed. No Lenco or clutchless transmissions allowed.

• Tires: 10.5-inch wide as measured at tread width. Any type tires allowed (i.e. full slick, D.O.T. or drag radial).

• Suspension: Any bolt-in stock-type front and/or rear suspension allowed. Front coil-over conversions allowed. No mini-tubs, ladder bars or race-style four-links allowed.

• Interior: Must have two front seats and interior must be neatly upholstered. When roll bar or cage is installed rear seat may be removed. Interior must have rug and be neatly finished. No gutted interiors.

• Glass: No Lexan windows.

• Vehicle: Must have all NHRA required safety equipment for ET/mph. (i.e. roll cage/bar, blowproof bellhousing, driveshaft safety loop, etc.). Note: We highly recommend getting a copy of the NHRA Rulebook so you don’t show up with a car that is not legal to race. In addition, all aspects of the rules will be enforced. If you lost your insurance card on the way to the track it is not our fault. Be prepared.

• Driver: Must have valid state driver’s license and NHRA license for ET of vehicle, if applicable.

• Weight break:
All vehicles must weight a minimum of 3,400 lbs. w/driver.

Let the games begin.
