Isn't that tough to accomplish? Heard it was a little more difficult to do as you have to try to sand down the walls even more then you do when its textured to just make sure the walls are smooth.

Yes, Shaggy, smooth walls are more work. But textured walls seem to be the latest fad although I believe it is popular because so few people are willing to work to make the walls smooth. My drywall guy wanted to do a texture on my walls and I flat out refused. It's a fast way to cover up crappy work.

It is harder but texturing is kind of seen as a "lazy" mans way out of doing the work and ultimately it will actually impact resale.

Textured walls look like ass (IMO). Just closed on a house yesterday where every wall is textured and/or plastered. Got a long road ahead to get those smooth and/or replaced.

That is how it is always done up North. You rarely see textured walls up here. I remember looking at buying a place in Arizona and couldn't believe the walls were textured. Must be lazy drywallers down there.

The walls in the house are actually smooth.
Well, now that all the textured crap that was in the sunroom is gone and replaced by new drywall, taped/mudded smooth.

The only sanding we have left to do is ceiling work, in the hallway, living room, and kitchen.
We already sanded the ceilings in the 3 bedrooms, 2 of which have already been painted and barely any texture was left.

We used a rented Proctor Cable sander, similar to this one:

It worked great, except for the frequent breaks I was taking cuz my arms were getting tired :/



Today, I cleaned off the sanding dust from the cement boards in the bathroom around the tub, and proceeded to apply 2 coats of "RedGard waterproofing & crack-preventing membrane" ... something that goes on pink, dries dark red, I've used before in my condo that I renovated before selling it, and I love since it makes whatever it's applied to waterproof.

This is after the second coat was just applied, so it's still quite wet:

I left that to dry and went out to play with the mower a bit more.
Pulled the spark plug, it looked OK, but bought a new one anyway. New plug looks to have a much tighter gap than the current one.
Will replace it tomorrow and see if it runs any different.
Will also get new oil in the engine, hopefully tomorrow, now that I know what kind and how much it needs

Yep, not used to see it here. Most homes I have been in, including mine are textured. I have not issues with it. Put the right paint color on it and you sometimes forget they are textured.

Gabe, did you use green board or concrete board in the tub/shower enclosure? And where do you get that red stuff? I'm about to do mine and if it really works that well then I can use green board and the red stuff instead of dealing with the concrete Wonderboard stuff.

I used Hardiebacker 1/2" cement board, and then the RedGard stuff on top of it.
Complete peace of mind.

Got it at Home Depot.

We love textured walls out here in SoCal apparently. Seems like every house has it.

I do actually like the texture. Think it looks cool and gives the wall some character.

However, when it's time to repair it, oh hell no. You'll never get it to match the original, no one will probably notice, but as was said before, it's an easy way to cover up bad work, usually from someone else. And it's not a ton of fun to paint since there are so many cracks and crevasses. You go dark and still see a bunch of white dots everywhere after two coats and are just shaking your head.

Supposedly it comes off fairly easily though ... some of the reviewers weren't happy about that since they had painted interior windows and they wanted it to last ... I think I'm gonna be happy about that when I clean it all off and do a regular 35%-20% window tint on there.
Gonna do a mini blind on the center door's window.
