Is he planning on lateral or vertical gas ports? You don't really need gas ports for what you are doing. The extra pressure from the gas pushing on the ring to keep it sealed will wear the rings and your bore quicker. If you just plan to race your car it will be fine, but if you plan on street driving it then I would tell him you don't want gas ports. You won't be making enough power to see any benefit from gas ports imo. Get a good set of rings with a steel top ring and you will be fine.

My builder also does not like the eagle crank and rods he thinks it will come apart at anything over 800. Can anyone shed any light on this

Ive heard same thing, as Bruce has asked about the valves has anybody seen them fail ? I once did some searching and though people were only dogging on them because they are Chinese forged(Thats what I read).

Just cause something comes from China doesn't automatically make it shit, it up the the person paying the Chinese company to maintain/keep eye on quality.

I don't necessarily think the crank will break, but there is a good chance it either won't be straight or it will have some journals that are out of round. At least from my experience anyways. Also, if you plan to turn 8k rpm I would spend the money on bullet I-beam rods that come with 7/16" rod bolts instead of 3/8" like the h beams. Clamp load is almost double with the larger rod bolts.

Eagle assured me today that the crank and rods have both seen over 1200 so I guess I won't worry about it

Iv since changed those plans going to set rpm too 7400 and shift between 6800 and 7k. Builder don't like the idea of turning it that high with a stroker kit. He tried to get me to go back with a factory stroke and I wouldn't do it
