oil temperature gauge sender

Where is the best place to install it? I've read the pan is the best place to read from, can i just use a drain plug that is tapped for a sender? or is there a better way?

You can t off the stock sensor
run a sandwhich adaptor on the oil filter
or put a fitting on the pan
