The cam install can be done with basic hand tools...done it twice in my garage and arguably easier than the LT install...the cams are plug in play since you are not swapping springs....lots of DIY guides/help on here and the rest of the internet.

Ok so I called a local shop to see about getting some work done.
1. Kook LTH's
2. New local Manufacture's CAI (supposedly tested better than big names)
3. FRPP Hot rod cams
4. x pipe
5. tune
all of this installed

The price for all of this was $4300.00
My question is, is this a good price or is it steep?
He's telling me to get it all done at once so that I only have to pay for a tune once.
This is a shop that was recomended by another board member and has a good reputation from what Ive read.
What do you guys think?

Are they taking you out to dinner first?

ok so am getting this right, the v3 from brenspeed will give me more HP and be more reliable than getting all this other crap done??? I saw on their website that the v3 is like $3900+$600 for install. So really for $4500, I can get 150HP and have better reliability than individual components that will only add roughly 50hp?

I was wondering, was the $4300 the shop told you include the price of parts or just the install?

I ran the Brenspeed Vortech system for a year [12,000 miles] with 0 problems. I had LTS with high flow cats and axle backs installed by them as well with that set up on stock internals my car made 458 RWHP and ran 12.4 [I need a driver mod]. You can make over 400 relatively safely with the Vortech.
I just upgraded to their Vortech H/O kit and their 302 stroker all installed by them as well.

The price was $4030, not $4300..

this was for kooks long tubes WITH a CATTED xpipe, R2C CAI, FRPP hot rod cams, Install of the headers, xpipe, and exhaust, install of the cams, CUSTOM dyno tune session on our dyno, and small misc shop supplies. There is also $156.44 in taxes since you are a local IL resident.

I DID email you a quote in a PDF form. All my prices are cheaper then most mail order places. It was $500 install on the headers, xpipe, and exhaust and $450 for the cams.. This is all VERY competitive in our area.

thanks bob kurgan

Thats what I said but no one would believe me.
Pretty standard price for those mods with installation. If that is the direction you want to go it is a good deal. You can build up from that set of mods without any trouble at all.

Still think you would be way better off with a use SC from the sale forum.

I completely agree and that is what I and my salesguy had mentioned, but he wanted to go NA and these are the parts he was interested in. I am not here to try and make a sale, i am here to defend myself as the quote was in line with what most shops would charge. Maybe there was a misunderstanding or maybe it caught him off guard, but every part and the install is very competitive.

and for those comments about the CAI being made of unobtainium etc, we did extensive R&D on our dyno vs K&N, JLT, S&B, and many others. Time after time, the CAI that we offer made MORE power. Here is a link to them http://www.r2cperformance.com/

Trying to make great power na gets pricey on these cars the farther you go so to get more bang for the buck for that amount of money just boost it man!

Two sides to every story and somewhere between lies the truth.

Thx Bob for your clarification in a professional and concise manner.

Hey Bob. I wasnt insulting you or implying anything. Im new to this and I was searching for information. Like I posted, Ive heard great things about your shop but I would be a fool to not ask questions when I have no experience in this area.
I apologize if this came out painting you in a negative light. That was never what I intended.

no offense taken..

I was just reading through all the replies and felt i should defend myself. Some things were left out in your original post that would make the quote quite high.. As i states, we are competitive with all the parts and labor is right in line with this area. I hope to hear from you soon.
