It might be a good idea not to install it. That way it won't break during shipment if anything should happen. You may want to stack it up on top of the engine. Just an idea

Almost all ocean freight is based on volume not weight, A box of air takes up the same space on the ship as box a box the same size of bowling balls.

Try shipping something light but bulky via UPS or FedEx and you get into minimum dimensional weight.

You can actually buy treated and stamped pallets or use plastic pallets.

Yes and no.

I should have been more specific on that. Air Freight is a mother. I have a Freight Forwarder in house (One of the three companies owned by our parent company)

Ocean freight is just not the cost of from one end of the ocean to the other. Sure, 6000KG will cost you the same no matter what ship you use (Maersk, Oldendorff, etc) however, there are inland transfers to the Chandlers/Ports which are always factored into that cost. The bigger/heavier the materials you are shipping, the higher the transfer. Granted, that is minimal, but, it adds up quick.

Anyhow - OP good luck shipping it. You can find yourself a good place to go and have it shipped for a good rat.e $2,000 is WAY over-estimated though. Should be under $1,000 no matter what.

Totally agreed. The $2,00 I mentioned earlier was for air freight. Only other expense would be any taxes and duty Italy has on an engine.

One step closer to delivering the engine. Santi has paid the full amount and now I'm working on logistics. Replaced the chipped oil pan and put a dry filter on it, then took it to All American Crating http://www.crateit.com/ so they could crate it up for international shipping. For $190 they will crate it up in a certified crate and include all documentation necessary for me to get it on a cargo ship to Spain.

Oh, I loaded that engine in my pickup by myself. Set one end of the skid on the tailgate then lifted the other end and slid it in. When they put it on the scales at the crate place it read 364 lbs.

Picked up the engine today and those guys did an awesome job packing it. Weight was 364 lbs when I dropped it off including my wooden skid. Their finished weight is 487 lbs which means there's about 140 lbs of crate protecting this engine. Dimensions are 34"x37"x37".

Front and rear sway bars are stock Bullitt items. Front was removed for drag racing and I read too many posts by Kelly stating that there wasn't much improvement to be had with an aftermarket rear sway bar, so I never bothered.

That's some damn nice packaging.
Looks like $190 well spent.

Just pray they didn't drop a screw in the intake.
LOL!

Just got home, engine was delivered today to the transporter's warehouse in Miami. It is scheduled to depart June 5 and arrive in Barcelona June 25. I guess that's all for now. Looking forward to hearing from Santi after he gets the engine next month.
