I kept a set of 8 broken plugs at the desk for show-and-tell.

And no, we wouldn't automatically break every plug just to charge them $1500.

.

LOL ,no you would not break all 8 that would be to much work ,
i bet you just tell them they all broke and then pulled out your
" show and tell " plugs to show them they are broke then charge them 1500.00 for 75.00 worth of plugs ..

Lol ... The place used to charge $26 a plug ... I think rockauto was selling the same plug for $7 a piece at the time ... I showed the rockauto price to a fellow writer ... we both just shook our heads ... we knew we were overpriced but couldn't do anything about it. They were tracking every little discount given ... and we were getting drilled about why we did that, and any deviations from policy resulted in a write-up.

I hated that place.

So looks like I'm good to go. Thanks to all who responded in this thread. Now I get to do this again for a 2008 Expedition which is unfortunately from early in that year. Her truck has 103,000 miles and they still have the original plugs.

Time to have more fun!!!!

Just make sure you have the Lisle tool on hand, you probably won't break any.

man im so glad all 8 of mine came out fine...

I used 50/50 of ATF/acetone but i was only at 47k ish miles

Upgrading to the newer style heads though so yay

The 50-50 mix of ATF + acetone is the bomb, beats everything else out there....hands down.

one of the most useful steps often never done is to tighten the plug just a tick before loosening. this breaks the carbon loose when you reverse direction to loosen. then loosen until you get resistance and put in your additive of choice
