Supercharge my 06, trade in for a used newer v8, or find a used 08,09 shelby??

Well, I've decided to push off the shelby for a couple more years, their price will come down and my money will come up ;p decided 500 a month just isnt worth it right now.

In the meantime I'm going to futz around with my 06 and enjoy the no-car-payment life in a year for awhile. Going to go with the department of boost setup, keep it pretty tame and probably slap on a ford racing suspension kit/call it a day.

Thanks for the good insight everyone.

That's going to be pretty cool. Good luck with the parts hunt. I searched ebay for "used mustang supercharger" and got a TON of hits.

skip the 07-09 Gt500. Drive the car till you pay it off. Trade/sell it plus put the 6k down and get in a 2011-2012 GT500.

This is my thought.

I love the 05-09 style better and a blown 3V 4.6L should keep up with a Coyote or 07-09 GT500. I'm thinking a blower and 302 stroker kit on my 05 w/ 68K would be awesome until I get closer to having the title in hand. If I was jumping into another car payment I'd consider the 11-12 GT500, not a Coyote.

Around here, the 11-12 Coyotes (6-spd) are going for $21K+. Searching across the lower 48, the 07-09 GT500s start at $30K. The 11-12 GT500s are $35K+

Great idea!

Hypothetically, if mine was paid off, I'd do the 302 stroker kit (forged internals with 302 bragging rights) and throw on a blower.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I'd take the 07/09 GT500. They look better to me than the 11-12 cars.

I agree in many ways but comparing the $30K to $35K, and getting a 5.4L with an aluminum block, better blower, suspension, etc I'd go for the 11-12 GT500. The 13-14 models are still expensive ($45K+).

For me, if I spend $10K to stroke and blow my 3V (yes I said it) it achieves my goals. I've already tackled half of my wish list.

Though, a 07-09 GT500 for under $28K might change my tune!

There are plenty of 07-09 with a couple miles for under $30k.

About a year ago I paid just under $35k for my 9,000 mile 2009 convertible that had about every available option on it and brand new Nitto's. Saw plenty of 15,000 mile 2007 coupes for around the 28k range.

I'd go for an 08-09 gt500, best body style.
I know it may be shocking to some of you but there are people that are in love with their old cars... so the "trade for a coyote" thing doesn't even cross their mind.
As it's not all about how fast the car is.

Me for example, I am keeping my car for the rest of my life.
IF I feel like I need to go faster I will just build the engine, pretty simple.
And if one day ford comes out with another mustang that I fall in love with I will just buy that one too lol.

I've said that for every one of the 10 I've owned....hasn't worked for me.

You're correct, I was off a couple grand. I usually search weekly but I'm looking for a red coupe with under 40K. Cheapest red 07 GT500 is $33K. If I do all colors and all mileage, there are some 07-09 GT500s listed for $28,900. I still go by the idea of buying a used GT500 before a coyote, and if I could jump into a 2011 GT500 for a deal that would be my direction.

In the meantime, I'm leaning towards keeping my 05 GT as I'm making good progress.

How far out are you looking from your location? When I was shopping I was looking out 400 miles and got lucky and found my car only 20 minutes from my house.

Across the lower-48. My son and I have a plan for whenever we're ready to buy a GT500 where we'll fly out to buy it and do a road trip back home. If it were a coyote, I'd only look within 100 miles or so.

I like CarGurus and AutoTrader.

I passed on doing a DOB because I heard they made terrible howling noises.

Only a few of the first produced (years ago) had some weird harmonics.
That has long been fixed, and they even replaced those that did it for the people that bought them.

I currently have one on my car, no weird noises except that awesome whine :naughty1:

ill just throw in here that this isnt the place to pass along bad info, just my 2 cents

Yeah I knew they actually don't, just saying that's why I passed on 'em an pieced together an M90 setup instead, which was almost as much work.

(EDIT: and 2-3x as much money. Damn it!)
