Congrats on getting a straight axel and finding the gears are off a shade. When I get around to installing the T56 MXL I'm think of getting the 3.73s from this place

http://www.weirracing.com/product/weir-racing-low-friction-8-8-ring-pinion-set/

Thanks, those gears aren't priced too bad, I've seen others that are supposed to the low friction and everything that cost literally twice that much.

Can't wait to hear back on the test drive results! Fingers crossed.

Ya me too, of course it's been raining since I got done working today, so the first drive will have to be sometime this weekend, hopefully tomorrow.

Okay got some seat time today, results are in, the gears are "almost" quiet, there's a faint whining noise around 55-60 mph that's about the same as it was before with the 4.10's, I can barely hear it over the exhaust, blower bypass valve, and regular road noise, really have to be listening. I've heard a lot worse, there's some noise, but it's certainly not enough to justify tearing it back apart again.

That's the same way mine are. I've just embraced the whine, and now think of more like a can lope of the rear end.

Kyle great to hear that you have the whine to an acceptable level!

On a different note I noticed some gear lube on my driver side rim today. I will need to take a looks see as you did. By any chance was your issue on the driver side as well?

^LOL that works, I went for another drive this morning, that third 30 minute break in drive FRPP recommends and I didn't even notice the whine until I remembered and thought to listen for it, so it's all good.

No, the DS axle on my car has been good all along. How much lube are you talking? A couple drops? Hopefully it's just leaking b/w the housing and c-clip elim bracket where the RTV goes and not from the seal like mine was, if it's the seal there's an issue.

How important is this break-in period for the gears?

I always do it, not sure what would be different if it wasn't done, it has something to do with the heat and cool cycles and setting the new pattern, maybe makes them stronger somehow? IDK but keep in mind many race cars out there use the same FRPP gears we do and you know they don't break them in. As a matter of fact the 3.73's I just installed in my car we're bought from Adam Arndt, mid- 7 second NMRA Renegade class racer, I bought this (new) spare set off him at the Spring Break Shootout this year after he swapped to a 9 inch.

So here in Florida we're required to get a new license plate every so many years, I think every 5 years. In any case it was time for me to get a new tag for my stang so just for shits I checked if my old custom tag was still available and I couldn't believe it when I was told it was! Back in the 90's I had a 91' Mustang GT that ran 9.80's, and it had a custom tag "9 SEC GT", coincidentally both cars are silver. I eventually sold that car when I bought my first house back in 03, but the tag has been hanging on the wall in my garage ever since. Now that my 05 GT runs ET's that meet that criteria I went ahead and got that same tag again, I always joked about it when I first got my 05 but now that it really happened, it's kind of cool. Here's a pic of both tags together, of course the lower one that expired in 2001 was from my old car, above is the new one. Again, kind of cool for me.

And my 91 GT in action at a Fun Ford Weekend back around 2000:

Gotta get some pics like that of my 05 now lol

Thanks. Will have it apart tomorrow. There has not been a lot. I noticed it when cleaning my rims. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is the RTV. I used some that was specially formulated for gear oil. Hopefully only an old guy fail!

I bet it's just the RTV, I first noticed my leak when there were two puddles of oil on my driveway, one in front of the wheel and one behind it (from the tire bulge), and that's only after the car being parked there for a couple hours!

That would be good if it is the RTV as it should be an easy fix. I still need to remove the check valve from the vent to avoid any positive pressure that may cause a leak.

Are you sure that won't cause it to spew oil out when you're driving?
