Well I'm Officially F@CKED!

As you guys know I took my car to another tuner 3 weeks ago and he saw and fixed issues with too much fuel being added(From SpeedFreaks) also it didnt make anywhere the hp I was told. During that time I had the p151a error and tried to fix that. I replaced all the plugs and re-gapped to .028 also replaced 2 O2 sensors(but none of that helped). The new tuner told me its not the intake runners but Ford and you guys told me it was. A week later I find out about the 2 missing bolts holding the collector on and get that fixed( fixing a big ehaust leak). I heard about another tuner that was closer to me (Sac-town) and read some good things so I decided to have him take a look. The tuner did a leak down and compression check before tuning today and this is what he saw..

Leak Down: test with 99psi
Cylinder:

#1 = 6%
#2 = 7%
#3 = 6%
#4 = 6%
#5 = 15%
#6 = 17%
#7 = 10%
#8 = 18%

Compression:

#1 = 215
#2 = 205
#3 = 210
#4 = 210
#5 = 180
#6 = 180
#7 = 190
#8 = 175

Also, #5, 6, 8 Plugs were toast (after 2 weeks!). All I can guess is that

1.) Tuner in Tracy forgot bolts or didn't tighten down pipe bolts and tuned over it by injecting more fuel and maybe more timing. In a way I think it covered the problem (sort term)

2.) months go by ( I dont dive the car all the time) and things get worse ( cant start engine without stepping on the gas and big puff of unburnt smoke)

3.) Checked plugs and see some of them messed up (later replaced them)

4) had hope of saving the car and took it to another tuner that saw and fixed the start up issue and saw the mass amount of gas being tuned in. Tuner saw an issue at 4.5K but didnt know what it was and thought it could be the plug gap(aka spark blow out. At the time I gapped them to .030).

5) I re-gapped the plugs to .028 ( pushing 12+psi). With the new tune the car started up with no puff of gas, but now has p151a error.

6) With in 2 weeks I replaced 2 O2 sensors and took it to ford (The told me its intake runner code).

7) Next day We spot the exhaust leak( no bolts on Down pipe on passenger side).

8) Day after that took it to midas to bolt it back up (PITA to do from home).

9) Now with Exhaust leak fixed, noticed more back fire and narrow band gauge (I know it sux) read lean at start up and hit low a few times.

10. Since the exhaust leak fix I have drove it for maybe 100 miles and shifted at 3K. I needed to get it tuned again and took it to ANOTHER tuner in Sac and now I hear this. Can All this hell really have been a stupid exhaust leak not noticed by 2 tuners? Does this make since? I'm stuck now and it does look like more $$. I just cant believe this shit is happening to me again. tomorrow, I will meet the tuner and get the 3 plugs. I will most likely have him do everything as I'm F'ed up with all this

Replace the plugs, get a REAL TUNER to do the tune, and drive the car for a while.

These numbers are much worse then before? your saying I can have him tune this pos to 500+ hp and still drive for a while? with those #'s?

Yup. It is not mortally wounded. See how the car performs with a REAL tune and everything fixed for a change.

It is a little surprising that they did not notice the leak - it generally shows up in a couple of places that even a marginally competent tuner should notice:

1. Wideband and short-term fuel trims don't make sense - PCM commands fuel when not expected or vice-versa when you have a leak so large

2. left/right trims show difference - if one pipe was sealed and the other not, the short term trims should be lopsided...

Could it cause all these issues - other than P151A - yes...

What is a little disturbing and might make me think about just tuning it up and enjoying what you have while you save/think about another engine is the uniformity of the DS bank of cylinders being down on compression... That hints of a gasket/head or cam timing issue... Something common to all the left-side head cylinders (bank 2).

Dumping fuel in to cover these issues washes the rings out, but both sides should have seen that...

ok.. I'll let him know. I'm not sure how the leak down or comp affects the car, I just hope the damn thing doesnt blow up at the track.. or is that off limits now? Damn... I hate this feeling =-/

Just get the car tuned properly and drive it for a while. If it shows no signs of being thoroughly SNAFU'd then start pushing it a little at a time to see what it can hold.

Track should be ok as long as you have quality fuel in the car and you pay attention to the car.

Thats basically what this new tuner in Sac told me today on the phone. The other tuners should have seen the short term trim difference. I'll call him tomorrow and have him tune it. He has worked on many prochargers. I just wish I had a good car for him to tune. I'll never hit 11's now

Ok, last time I type this. The numbers are not so bad that it will blow when you get on it or take it too the track, this is assuming the tune is right. If I lived where you live I would bite the bullet and take the car to ST and have Adam tune it. Keep in mind that I have never bought anything from him, but from all the posts I have read you will have a tune and car that will run 11's when it leave his shop. There is only two shop that are close to me that I would let touch my car Sutton and Livernois. Since I have had good luck with Sutton my car is heading there tomorrow. There are too many bangers running around backwards that think they can tune our cars, don't screw around take it to a known good tuner.

PS I am sure you will notice that I said you will have a 11 second car. It will still need an 11 second driver, I want to read about you doing that, don't let me down.

PPS Any comments on the very loose quotes to two movies in this post?

+1

The car has not ran correctly yet. Having to hold your foot on the gas to start it because it floods is not good.

Now that the exhaust leak is fixed, CHANGE THE OIL and get the car tuned correctly. Then drive it, not a few short 30 mile trips, but put real miles on the motor, lets say 500+ miles and then do a leakdown again.

Some shop saw you coming a mile away and you're about to spend alot of money you don't have too to rebuild a motor that isn't broke. Even if you put a couple thousand miles on it the motor isn't going to fly apart in pieces, meaning that if you rebuild it now or put a couple thousand miles on it you'll still have a good core to rebuild if you decide that is what it needs.

But with all these issues with exhaust leaks and running rich as hell I wouldn't write the motor off yet.
