New thread with new problem... well the knock sensors are no longer the issue... No more vibration and just to be sure my tuner turned the knock sensors off and I gave it a run and its still pulling timing... After looking at the graphs and cycling through the different logged parameters I found a pattern... Its pulling the timing when the voltage drops out... at 2500 the alternator stops output, then the voltage regulator resets and the timing climbs back up till it shuts down again and timing drops yet again... What would make the alternator shut down only under load...

To me that sounds like the alternator is going bad. I believe most of the newer alternators have internal voltage regulators. It sounds like the regulator has gone bad. It is better that it does that then what I had happen on my SVT contour (yes it was a contour and I was 18). I had the regulator not work but it allowed a spike to go throught the electric system and took out many modules to include the PATS, airbag and a few others. Not cheap that is for sure.

the only thing is though that it only has started this since i dropped the new motor in... it only does it when the engine is under load... i can cruise all day long with no problems..

No underdrive pulleys right? I would just try to check all the connections and see if there is anything loose, grounding out or out of place. That is about all I can say cause I don't believe that it is computer controlled as far as the voltage is concerned. Sorry to not be much help.

No worries man, any input is help to me... You actually got me started on a few new ideas i wasn't thinking of... After doing some research for the last hour I have found 3 reports of this happening all of a sudden... One guy had to have a new alternator, one had a bad ground, and the last had a bad connectio on the alternator itself... I know what I am doing in the morning... I checked my old datalogs from right before i dropped the new motor in and this was no where in existance....

Any other ideas would be great and thanks for the input on this and the other thread...

I would say you may have a bad ground somewhere. The voltage from the alternator is controlled by the computer and may be getting a stray signal from a loose or bad ground.

'preciate it man... if i don't get to it this morning when i get off will be be throwing a grounding kit on this weekend... I'm also gonna check the connections to the alternator...(fingers crossed)...

thanks for all the advice fellas... ok ok ok... found the charging issue problem and fixed it... i ohmed out the block to the negative terminal and there was too much resistance for one thing so i used some 10 gauge wire I had spare and made a few grounding connections to the engine... some of my hesitation that i attributed to the cmcv deletes is now gone... the second one is the one to laugh at a little bit... this is the reason why I call blue loktite "peace of mind juice"... the two lower nuts for the alternator had backed off about 1/4 inch... the vibration and bad connection together were what was causing it...

thats all fixed but this stupid thing is still pulling timing... its not pulling it as soon as it was before but now its still pulling it down to 8* from 16*... knock sensors off for testing and the charginf issue fixed and still pulling timing... this is driving me nuts...

does anyone else know all the parameters that have a retard function...

that i am unsure of... i will ask the tuner... what exactly will the adaptive learning do...

i try not to bug the tuner to make too many adjustments cause he is busy as hell, thats why I am asking so much on here..

I'm sorry, but :wtf:. Isn't that the tuner's job to get it running right?

oh yeah it definitely is... he is a great tuner and super nice guy, not to mention he is on this board... i'm just around 7,000 miles away, and completely on the other side of the world... he is basically doing everything off of my datalogs and has never even seen the car... there are no tuners here that i trust... so I try not to call him with every little question if i can find the anwser somewhere else...
