I tried searching, but nothing of relevance appeared. I am using my phone so that might be an issue.

My question is this.

I am currently running BBR stage 2 cams with springs and retainers with lockouts. I am changing to a more twin screw friendly cam (comp 127550). Can I keep the lockouts or should I drop the $185 on limiters?

Do I need the 20 degrees of vct? Also, the lockouts can be installed fully advanced or retarded, what is the best way? I installed mine when the phaser was at rest and loaded the lockout.

Installing them advanced is the only way. Full advance is 0 degrees. Full retard would be 60 and your car wouldn't run very well locked out at 60 degrees of retard. I've never understood the advertising that states you can lock them out at full advance or retard.

I don't think you will notice much difference being locked out with a supercharger. You could always use the tfs adjustable gears and install the cams locked out and slightly retarded to balance some of the top end loss that will happen.

1. Buck up and get the limiters-I have a set of livernois ones I'll be using when I do my shortblock.
Or...
2. If you haven't bought the cams already, get a set that is spec'd for lockouts or sell them and buy different ones.
Or...
3. Just live with the loss of power. IIRC, the BBR 2's are meant to retain the VCT so since you have them locked out now, it will be no worse than how things currently are.

VCT was designed to give you a a smooth idle, good fuel economy, better low end power and better low end torque.

The engine wasn't designed to have those heads and VCT system accommodate high lift cams and a blower. They were engineered for the factory stock setup. If you are cammed with a blower, you won't get any of intended VCT benefits with or without the limiters. Likely you won't notice any difference at all really.

Degree them and lock them. Just my opinion of course.

you get more power if you retard a bit the cams at high rpm's if you lock them out the best way is to degree the cams, i have engines spining 7000+ with limiters and no issues, those 127550 cams are good cams for me the best 2 cams off the shelf are 127450 (below 15psi) and 127550 (15psi up) on a blower or supercharger aplication

I am running the Livernois limiters with cams that have the same lift as your 127550's. I ran with lockouts on my last engine and I like the way the engine runs on the street better with the limiters.

Sub! Not trying to steal your thunder OP, but I'd love to hear everyone's opinion with lockouts vs limiters with a turbocharged motor!

So I am gonna run the lockouts instead of the limiters. An order is going in to brenspeed. Look for a for sale thread for my bbr stage 2.
