What's a simple/easy way to see engine oil temps in an '08 mustang 4.6L? I want to know when oil is over 160~180* ish & safe for higher rpm's. I don't need exact #'s, just a general idea.

These TT gauges work great on motorcycles & I'm looking for a simple place to attach/insert a sensor & get approximate engine oil temps.

There’s an inferred EOT PID you can pull through the OBD2 port if you so desire.

Or just let the car run and drive lightly for 10 mins and you will be there too…

I use the oil pressure as an indicator of when the engine is ready to rev. At idle rpm my cold oil pressure is 100 psi and when the engine is warmed up the oil pressure is 30 psi.

StockishS197, care to elaborate? Dashtronix(?), made a C6 corvette OBD2 plugin that displayed multiple sensor temps in the stock DIC readout that was great info..is there a simple way to get EOT’s from the inferred PID?

Try Scangauge. Plugs into OBD port and has numerous engine details. It will also clear common codes too.

I use one on my Audi and it reads everything I need… boost, temp, etc.

There is no oil temp sensor on the '05-'10s so nothing that plugs into the OBD port is going to help.
You can remove the OE oil pressure sensor (behind the oil filter), install a 1/4" NPT tee and then run a temp sensor along side it.

There is an EOT PID you can log if you have an OBD2 device (I was able to pull it via my SCT LiveLink), though it’s not an actual value but rather inferred/calculated in 07+ S197s.

I believe 05-06 Mustangs did have an EOT temperature in the oil pan.

used a scanguage 2 on my 6.0 diesel superduty for awhile before I went full blown tablet for it with 10x the displayed info. The SG2 is a great little device

Looks like it does have oil temp capabilities…

I have one of these in my car. There is no oil temp PID available that I have found. Scangauge only lists oil temp PID for Diesel trucks in the Ford section.
I incorrectly stated there isn't a sensor. There is a sensor in the pan on early cars as others have said, but it seems the PCM doesn't make isolated data from it available.

Contact scan gauge, and ask....

FYI It doesn't come with boost programmed but they sent me the code now my Audi reads boost. I don't like pods or gauges mounted in plain sight, so this little box works perfectly for my application.

Unless you are running HPDE, oil temp is about the same as water temp, maybe + a few degrees.
It takes about 25 min of beating the nuts off it for oil temp to be a concern.

That SG2 looks good too..I’ll contact them about EOT (inferred) PIDs. I had a couple C6 Z06’s & their oil took far too long to even get close to 170-180* due to their 22”x6” front oil coolers. I want to ensure this 4.6 oil gets properly warm.
