When is it time to consider stronger axles?

Just how good are the axles in these cars? I don't want to waste any money if it'd be just overkill. When I bought the car I took it to the track and I was dumping the clutch at about 5000rpm on drag radials (stock 3.73s) and it would bog a bit. I was afraid to launch higher or off the rev limiter incase I busted an axle. I'm going to order 4.10s so now would be the time to put axles in. Plans for the car is just bolt ons and full exhaust. No power adders. Any advice?

i was still running 31 spline axles at 650RWHP and 1.4x sixty foots. axles are still perfect. I only upgraded to 35 spline axles due to the diff i chose being only a 35 spline unit.

Currie axles, but the only difference was they were longer/shorter to fit my 9" rear end. no strength difference over the stockers.

my stock axles were perfectly fine as well, running 11.49 pass after pass with 1.6x sixty foots and a little over 500RWHP

Stkjocks GT500 with stock axles puts down over 850RWHP and has run 9's

Perfect! That's the kind of info I need. I hate to replace perfectly good stock stuff.

I've been cutting 1.5s with 6k clutch dumps and full slicks on the stock axles. They are plenty strong!

Yeah, bud...Don't replace em unless you break em or need a bigger/smaller rear end.

I'm running 650hp and have had no issues.

I made 823rwhp and ran a 9.83 on stockers. Cut a 1.4x 60' on that pass also. I think one thing that helps with my setup tho is the fact that it is an auto. If you are able to preload the suspension it is less of a shock on the axles. Another thing to consider as well is your tires. If you are running a radial of any kind and it hooks hard the tire will not absorb much of the energy and the axles feel the brunt of the launch, If you have a bias ply slick or et street type tire the sidewall will take allot of the "snap" of the launch and soften the blow so to speak....

I had one hell of a time trying to find replacements, FoMoCo or aftermarket, no one (except me :hammer:) are in need of replacements.

I managed to snap an axle on a class 6 size truck, my Chevy C8500 bucket truck (27,000 lbs). I had gotten it stuck three times in the previous week, including once with a loaded trailer weighing about 14,000 lbs. Broken axles suck.

Exactly, it's one way to find out your trac-loc is shot. :angry1:

But at least I upgraded while I was at it because a few parts were trashed. Right side: Axle, LCA, Caliper, rotor, wheel, sway bar end-link, and a bent shock mount.
