update - cleaned the remaining rubber out of my uca bushing on the axle side. mini die grinder with a little wire wheel from harbor freight. worked like a charm. Getting the poly bushing pressed in was a pita but i eventually managed by using a hammer and a c-clamp.

hey....i got a set of heads. build back on track!

Theyre stock ford heads with comp stage 2 VSR cams...ill get the part number. Livernois lockouts. Comp springs. They look good and im really tempted to try and put em on without getting them decked.

Opinions on that? Do they have to disassemble them to deck em?

You can check straightness with a straightedge and feeler gauges. I've went with no more than .002" with 3v heads and been fine even with up to 17psi. IIRC Ford specs no more than .001" over a relatively short distance.

i was curious to see what it would cost to have them "reconditioned." called a local shop and they want $500 + the cost to disassemble and reassemble. Im DEFINITLEY gonna just check them for straightness and call it a day. at that cost i need to seriously consider just having them ported too. And i no longer have that kinda money.

If they're off, why not have a shop do a slight cut just to make sure?

This and have them pressure tested as well. It costs alot less to do it the first time around than wish you had.

I agree. When my engine was apart, I decided to have my heads vacuum tested. I was surprised how many bad valves I had and didn't know it. I picked up 30whp from a valve grind.

$1000 to take a few thousandths off the head surface????! Time to find a new machine shop. That shouldn't cost you more than $100 or so.

I just spent $500.00 for tear down, surface, vacuum test, grind the valves, set the installed height on the springs and assemble.

You could be able to get all of that work done as well as a hand port job for around 1200-1300. 1000 just to do what you stated is way too high. BTW (not trying to stir anything up) did SD ever do right on your heads or was that just a total loss?
