Stock as long as they are for an intake manifold with seperate imrc plates (2005-2009).

The Whipple instructions should tell you to reuse your stock ones.

Hopefully my chains come today so I can get it all strung together and get the timing cover on. "baby steps"

nothing last nite other than figuring out i lost the bolts for the timing chain guides. Since my last pic ive slid the timing gears on the crank. Looks to me like the woodruff key on the crank is not a key at all, but actually machined into the shaft, so i suppose i dont need to RTV that. So tonite if the chains and now bolts come, I will get the thing chained, timed and get the timing cover on.

Based on tmcolegr's build thread I think at that time i should be prelubing the engine so its off to lowes to get a sprayer. I cant believe they sell prelubers for $150 and its the same thing!

funny question - how can i tell if i have lockouts installed on the cams? got these heads secondhand so i want to verify everything. also, i read that with lockouts you can lock full advanced or full retard. how can i tell that? because im sure my tuner would want to know.

You would never want to lock full retard and nobody would install them that way on purpose. The only way I can think of to verify lockouts are installed off hand is to take the back phaser plate off. I'm not having a way to check with everything hooked up come to mind other than datalogging cam postition but that would be hard to do with the motor not running, lol.

well you solved one problem for sure. assume its locked full advance. once its running on a startup tune, im sure then my tuner can figure that out.

Thanks!

btw update - chains and bolts for guides are in my posession and will go on 2nite. if i do real good ill get the timing cover on and the oil pan with the livernois scraper. Really really good would be valve covers and we could have this thing sealed up 2nite!

it was such a bear figuring out which bolts go where on the timing cover. the shop manual gives you bolt dimensions with numbers for the torque sequence. i had to measure and categorize them by number (position).

Well hey, that's alright! Can't wait to see it progress. Contemplating doing a similar build myself hopefully a few years after I get out of college. Just a freshman now, so it'll be a while, but hey :thumb:

Crank pulley on. Put some rtv on the woodruff key to seal any oil weeping. Crankshaft seal was installed on the timing cover before installing on the motor.

Last nite (no pics) I put on the fr500s oil line/radiator hose thing that replaces the part that the original oil filter goes. Going to do the remote oil filter. Also I put on the motor mount pedistals.
