So my car did not get used much last summer as my son was small and work was very busy. I didn't even put 1000 miles on it total :(

I changed it last spring. It may have 900 mi on the current Mobil 1 oil/filter. I plan on driving it a lot more this year (going on Power Tour!). I hear conflicting ideas on wether the oil needs changed or not. Some say its fine, others say to change it ASAP in the spring. What do you guys think?

If the oil level is where it was when you parked it, I say run it. I would go for a good long drive and get the oil up to operating temp.

If its been a year or so, I would change it no matter how many miles are on it.

Change it. Sitting for extended periods of time allows for condensation build up. Cheap insurance to start the season with fresh oil!

Oil breaks down sitting in your engine...just because its not being used does not mean containments are not breaking down your oil.

Quick google search, many other articles out there for your reading pleasure.

I know some who put cheap oil in when they store it in the fall, and drain it in the spring and add their good oil.

Some are anal !LOL!

If you put 1000 miles on it then you should be good. But I'd change it anyways cuz I'm like that. LOL

Unleasedbeast told me that a superior synthetic oil can go 18 months with low milage. My OCD still tells me to change it every spring.
