Ford would like you to if you are going to go over 7800 RPM. I think I would do it regardless, Boss springs are cheap.

X2. With the comp 3 cams there's a .5mm raise and same duration and they're NSR.

The fact that Ford recommends springs, yet Comp doesn't for an even bigger cam is a bit disturbing. I would have doubts about the valvetrain remaining under control with the Comps.

I've heard similar from Mike Rauscher previously as well. That some newer heads are clearanced, but he didn't draw the line right at a model year changeover.

I've heard you can still retain vcti with comp stage 3's now too, a few companies have figured out the tuning. I wanna wait till more people are running em to see how it works out... And till that asinine price tag drops down!

Prices on aftermarket cams probably wont drop off. They are still 300-400 per cam for all platforms.

The price of the cams aren't the problem to me, its the job of changing them! It ain't no 3V easy job or I'd already have mine changed. LOL

I think that the right rear gears would be more important.

The set I purchased has now been through analysis to generate specs. Lift is .432, duration @.050 is 239. Very close to what the parts peddlers are referring to as a "stage 3" from Comp. Same duration, .020" less lift.

That said, if you're confident using stock springs with the Comp, you certainly should be with these also. I'd still install the Boss springs, they're cheap.

I have all the different sets that Ford Racing sells, gave them all to Mike Rauscher last week so he could spin them up and get the specs. He was down here in his MCI coach, I stuffed the basement full of cranks, blocks, rods, pistons, cams, sleeves. Time to go fast.

I had a Lunati cam with an advertised duration of 292* for a Pontiac. It was 232* at .050.

So these are comparable to comps, with just a little less lift and a lot friendlier price tag? Any guess as to what the low end loss might be with these?

These are now discontinued. About 80 sets left and being sold off at a lower price. Currently $151.53 a pair from Tasca.
