In the cold I was seeing 11-12 or so. In the heat or normal local weather 9. What spring should I drop in there? Should I ask ken b also what he recommends?

we send them out with the black and red, I would say try black and blue to start with. that should be more comparable to what your seeing now as far as boost

right is what comes on 2014s left is pulley that comes with kit.

Going off memory my car is 10/13 build date.

I have a 2014 with a 11/19/13 build date and have a 3 bolt water pump pulley as well. This might put the kibosh on my paxton with 8 rib plan. Any idea if they make a compatible 8 rib pulley?

Okay,

been doing some research. Ford does not show a different water pump for any mustang 2011-2014. They all show the same part number.

However, they do show 2 different part numbers for water pump pullies, a 3 bolt and a 4 bolt. When you enter the part # into ford's system, It shows the 3 bolt pulley is for a 2015 Ford Mustang.....

If one of you 2 that have a 2014 with a 3 bolt pulley, can pm me your vin number, I can dig a little deeper into this.

It may show a different part number on your particular build.

Replied to your PM with a link to my window sticker with VIN. I can take pics of it in the car as well if it helps.

Curious to see why a 2015 mustang part on a 2014 mustang.....

Very often when they retool for the 15 model they will do a running change while still producing the 14 model. It helps with system fill. Its very challenging thing to manage all new parts for a model change especially when its very minor changes . They call them engineering changes in my business (I supply parts to auto industry)

One other reason would be cost ...one bolt per vehicle on the 250k + mustangs and Im sure they added this across to the F150 at 400K plus units is a big chunk of change on a part that probably sees no difference with 3 vs 4 bolts. And add in the additional time savings to install that bolt on all those parts ...Time is money ...lotsa dollars

disclaimer..im just pulling estimated production numbers as examples but im sure im pretty close

Let me know what you find. Also on the aluminaters it list the new ones as a 3 bolt water pump pulley.

Just put the 8-rib on my new Aluminator today. It has the 4-bolt water pump.

My parts guy is about as good as it gets. Searching 2014 Mustangs. There is no reference other than the 4 bolt water pump pulley. However, when searching by Witt's vin #, it does list a separate part # and specifically references a 3 bolt water pump. It also says (Some 2014 "Post Job 1") - Very Odd.

Edit:

The reasoning appears to be clear upon researching part numbers. The cost of the new pump is about 60% of the 4 bolt.

3 Bolt Water Pump - BR3Z 8501 J - MSRP $82.38
3 Bolt Water Pump Pulley - BR3Z 8509 HA - MSRP $9.97

4 Bolt Water Pump - BR3Z 8501 H - BR3Z 8501 H - MSRP $143.47
4 Bolt Water Pump Pulley - BR3Z 8509A - MSRP - $20.13

I spoke with the engineers at Vortech / Paxton.

The OEM Pulley should work ok. Vortech / Paxton provide a pulley with larger lips to help prevent any belt walk. There should be no issues with running the oem 3 bolt water pump and pulley, but a car will be in house soon for testing to know for sure.

I believe it is slightly smaller, but I don' t think it's enough that will require the idler adjustment to be moved with a stock pulley with a Paxton (3.8). Those with a Paxton that is pullied down one to a 3.6, or a Vortech might.

We haven't had one in house to know for sure though. If you have a 3.6 when you install, if the tensioner appears to have too much play and is close to bottoming out, you will want to move the idler over one spot to tighten up the system.

The 8 ribs water pump pullies at some point, will more than likely be getting re machined to accept both bolt patterns. Initially if your plans are a competition kit or 8 rib upgrade, your easiest option would be a 4 bolt water pump from Ford. If need be after testing, the 6 rib pullies may end up with the same bolt pattern treatment.
Just wanted to put info out there so no one has any surprises.

Has anyone run these when it was below 20 degrees? I caught a mention of possible seizing under around 26 degrees and it was kind of turning me off to one.

Where did you read that?
Just went back and looked and it was actually in a vortech maintenance manual. My mistake, but similar tolerance issues could be present in the Paxtons as well.

If you are driving a 600+ mustang in 20 degree's below zero....well....anyway......

Only gonna have one car... life doesn't stop in winter :)
