CAn't point the finger at the 2v tensioners completely.. as I have no real deconstructive testing that I can refer to..

With that said, Ford rarely re-designs the wheel for the hell of it. Possible they were on to this when they went to this valve train and the 2v were too troublesome in this system. Again, they don't just make changes to keep their guys busy.

They sure do seem to be a common thread with broken guides on the 3v tho... and a few lost motors as a result

JEEZ looks like ill go to plastic now. cause i broke a guide and now this issue. got 60k+ miles on plastic ones :/

and also it ran great up until i went to pull out of security check point at work and it started doing that phase knock thing again... and then died all together..
crown... wouldnt the motor still run with a dead cylinder? it wont even fire at all... :/

And sorry I missed this question. But yes,, with a dead cylinder it would run. I have seen one run with a rod hanging out the side. Started back up too.

YOu have a timing issue and that far out it wont start, run, nothing.

NOT WORTH TRYING.. get it hauled home

The lockouts (and limiters) come with pretty good instructions (and they are cheap). If you have any doubt give me a call and I can walk you thru it. You can only lock the cams full advanced with the lockouts. You could use the TFS adjustable crank gears to retard them based on what cams you select. I do prefer these tho. I have a used set you can have. I had lost the damn center spacer and ordered new ones before I found it lol.. New are cheap anyway.. like under $50.

If you choose the limiters (maybe better for your setup) then you wont need the tfs adjustable crank gears... and can still have a pretty good selection of cams

No on Jesel. You could almost build a new motor for what those bastards cost. We will never take these motors to the extreme where they would be required or even highly recommended. I think I may even back out of them after all.

As far as the TFS followers.. well retail they are likely cheaper from what others have said but I think I can get close to that price anyway with genuine Ford parts. You only need a few, 12 at most and not sure if you can buy the TFS individually or not but have not checked. Would not surprise me if they were all made by the same place lol.

you can buy the TFS individually from propower/modmax

i guess i need to talk to livernois or compcams and see what i need for lock outs and stuff depending on the cams i need?

GUESS i cant assume that the factory follower just "failed" need to look further. maybe it was force to fail based on it wont run at all. and when i crank the engine it doesnt sound right at all. im wondering if something is hiding behind the front cover or maybe that pin snapped on the phaser

livernois cams good?

Call michael at L&M for cams. http://www.lmengines.com/. (215) 675-8485. Might be more affordable than you think and he can give you more info in 10 min than I could in a lifetime

I really did like the comp 127350 with that setup too. They are affordable but have no personal experience with livernoise cams. Had a couple "rough" experiences over there buying parts (well, trying to) so never went back. Their lockouts and limiters are good.. I only buy from them if I can order online.. and not talk to those idiots that answer the phone over there. Maybe it is better over there now, but mine is a big ship that is hard to turn back around lol.

Yes, you should be able to. I pulled mine with the manual trans in place but I can't see why an auto bell housing would affect the oil pan clearance any differently.

Never pulled the pan with stock k member with motor in car. It should, but you may need to just lift the motor a little to get it to clear the stock k. If you have the bmr k then it will come out no problem.

Your issue will be the oil pickup tube and maneuvering the pan around the stock k.. You "might" be able to get the pickup tube off but not sure you can reach the 10mm fastener that attaches the pickup to the windage tray stand-off. You can get the two 8mm fastheners off that attach to the oil pump but will be tight getting the one off in the back. If you could remove the pickup then will come out easy

Let me know tho.. I would like the knowledge

ive had some good luck in the past with cryogenic-ally freezing brake rotors and brake pads along with competition go kart parts for making them stronger. think ill have these new followers frozen too. thoughts?

No. If the engine is working properly then the process is not necessary. Lots of guys push a lot more horsepower than you on stock followers without issues.
If the cause of failure is not resolved, then the new followers will break just like the old ones regardless of any cryo processes.

ok good point... i still havent taken motor out yet. but i am pretty sure the phaser is to blame. ive researched alot on here and other forums and seen stock mustangs and f150s break these followers. i was just thinking of freezing them for added insurance.

i just really really REALLLLY dont want to make it a habit of pulling this motor every other month!!! yea im getting good at it but... still... know what im saying? i enjoy working on it... but i enjoy driving it better..

I'm just saying the followers aren't the problem. Focus on fixing the problem instead of trying to put band aids on the symptoms.
