FRPP 4:10s and CAI going in tomorrow!

Since Mason has school tomorrow he will have to wait till another day to learn how to build the rear end. I have to get it done while I have time.

I picked up the one pinion bearing that I didn't already have in the garage today and have the friction modifier wrapped up 6 times in the cabinet where it has been for a year or so. I am not looking forward to opening that bag! You can smell it though the 6 bags in the cabinet every time you open the doors. LOL

After the install I will get Manuel to touch up the tune for the FRPP CAI and then we are done for a little while till the 11:1 SB goes in. At that time we will do the ARH headers and x pipe, Steeda under drive pulleys, 3200 stall, billet input shaft and new servos. And sometime between now and then we may add a FRPP intake manifold. That is the next thing on the his list to buy. So if you have a used one, we may be interested.

HE will have a tire burning Hi-O time with the gears. After I put 4.10's in my car, it became a blast to drive, blow the tires off in first and carry that spin pretty much most of the way thru second. You will need to really pound safety into his head, as well as when and when not to get right foot fever! My youngest son learned to drive at the track before he had his d/l.

I've been pounding safety it his ears since before we bought the car. I also always tell him, " If you make me regret this and make your mother and others right, I will sell your car". One thing about TX is when your his age and you get in trouble, you loose your lisense till you are 18 pretty easy also, so that stays in his head as well. We all know how it is though, you can only teach and preach and hope it sinks in.

I couldn't agree more; that's the way my father brought me up,. Sure, I did stupid shit, but there was a line I never crossed. Trust means a lot.

Well I installed the FRPP CAI and then removed the rear end for the gear install. Then shit went down hill. I took the rear end apart and all was well till I went to remove the pinion gear. I hit it with dead blow for 30 min, then a 2lb sledge and after that broke, I went and bought a new 3lb sledge. After beating on it for another 15 min. I decided to get the 12 ton press out out of the workbench and thought I was going to show it who was boss, boy was I wrong. I thought something was going to break so I took the rear end to the machine shop I use and put it in there 60 ton press. It took 34 tons of pressure to separate the pinion from the front bearing! Everyone in the shop knew when it let loose! Lol That is the most my machinest or myself has ever seen on a perfectly good rear end.

It is all back together now and all in spec with the pinion preload at .022 and the backlash at .011 with all new bearings.

Bad news is its not in the car yet and killed my tuning plans for the cars today.

Good news is, its not supposed to rain on Sat. like we thought it was, so there is do more time to get them done.

I will post some pics tomorrow. Man what a day, 12 hrs in on the gear install as of when I stopped with the rear ready to ho back in.

That should have been a 4.5 to 5 hr job. 1.5 to put it on stands and to take it out, 1.5 to set it up, and 1.5 to put it back in and put it on the ground. Easy peazy, right?

Man what an ordeal!

Okay so I had the rear setup and ready to go in the car last I commented. So, the next day I put it in the car and go for a drive. Lots of whine on decal, so I go back to the house yank the rear back out go though it again and re install it. Then test dive again, and what the hell do I here? Whine on decal! So the next day I pulled it again thinking maybe the pinion depth is off or something. Nope! Some dumb ass forgot to crush the damn crush sleeve before setting the pinion preload, man how I wish I was not that guy...

Anyhow after removing the rear and installing it three times as of yesterday, the car is working! I do have a slight whine on decel still though.(Very slight though) next weekend I am going pull the driveshaft loose and turn the pinion nut about 1/8th turn more.

Good news is I have been tuning with Manuel this afternoon and the car pulls strong! Has a lot of power for just HR cams, FRPP CAI, Tune, and gears.

Wet here today so only 3-4 pulls. Next weekend I will do a 1234 pull and finalize the tune till the built SB, LTs, ORX, stall, and under drive pulleys go on.

aug... the sucks. I notice that every gear I ever installed or had installed in my 8.8 that 4.10 or steeper, they always whine a little on decel. It never completely goes away.

Well, I picked up his parts from the machine shop today. Block line bored to check it, and bored .030 to accept the Manley 11:1 flat tops. The crank has been polished and checked, and the entire rotating assembly has been balanced. I was able to pick up some bare heads, that I will do a light port job on and then have the valve job done on by the same guy that did mine and then assembled with new springs, seals, guides, valves ect. Once this log block is ready we will install the under drive pulleys and ARH long tubes with OR x pipe that are sitting in the garage.

I was also able to get him set up (on his dime now, Christmas is over) with a PI 3500 stall, billet input shaft, deep pan, SFI flex plate, and a TCI ratchet shifter. That is all on the way.

Car should be a nice N/A 3v till he gets ready for boost. Nice thing is, the car and motor will be ready for it.

I will post pics of the other parts as they arrive.
