If a person doesn't track his car and uses it as just a cruiser, would say an R2300 with the roush tune be pretty safe then? Probably taking one or two 1000 mile or so cruises every year?

Properly tuned you could drive it 20,000 miles a year without issue.
Admittedly I have had a stock 4.6 3V as a backup since 2008 but is has just sat there.
I have always had a plan to build an engine but the further I pushed the car the further I wanted to keep the engine stock to see what I could do with it.
I may pull out all the stops once the new engine is ready and try to run in the 10's on stock internals. The car is a full weight car weighing in at close to 3900lbs with driver. It hasn't been weighed since the 9" rear end has gone in the car.
The car is also lowered with a road race suspension setup so it doesn't transfer weight well on launch and runs full sized front wheels.

In a typical Canadian summer I would make 1-2 1,500 mile road trips.
I drive it nights and weekends everywhere since I have a service vehicle during the day.
I've made trips from Montreal to NYC/southern Jersey, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Toronto/ London Ont. and Frankfort Ky.

Besides alternator issues which I've had a few over the years, I had an O2 sensor issue on my Kentucky road trip this summer.
On a car with 90,000 replacing an O2 sensor isn't out of the ordinary.

The vast majority of people blow up their cars because their tuner sucks, they get bad fuel, don't have enough pump/injector, they get a tune on the edge of detention and then do a 30second pull, etc. There is a limit but its hard to just estimate with so many other variables I'd want to see force calculations and some sort of strength test to isolate just the rods. Which will never happen.

Ford designed the rod for 300 HP. Silly to think they will last when leaned on. Some get lucky, some don't.

Holding 50%+ more power than stock, I'd say ford did everyone a huge favor.

How's it going guys, I just bought me a 08 GTCS it has 101xxx miles and I was wondering would it be safe to push 7-10 lbs of boost usin a 70mm turbo on stock internals

Its a risk, period. As long as your ok taken a risk, go for it! If you want minimum risk, stay NA! Most people make plenty of power at 8psi, for example, I've been fine for almost two years now at 8psi making 470rwhp. Granted, my transmission, clutch and an eaton diff where not fine.

I've been at 478rwhp 7psi for 3 years now. I don't drive the car much. 3-4k a year. But like mentioned before its always a risk when you add boost. Not only for your engine but your whole car. Ex. suspension, brakes, tires. then build list starts. :lol2:

Power is the last thing the car should get.
If it can't turn or stop it shouldn't be getting more power.
Obviously the turning part is less important for drag racing.
I started with suspension, tires, brakes, exhaust and driveline before adding power. I added cooling and fuel the same time I added power.

Been making 485 rwhp 424 ft lbs for about 4 years now. Don't drive it all the time but it does withstand the spirited driving on the weekends. good tune by lund. Getting rid of the drivetrain soon. Good luck!

Same way I went with mine. Car's done 80k miles now and i'm almost ready for the S&H turbo kit. Got an RXT installed but I reckon the next thing to take a shit will be the stock block or the TR3650. It's a risk and i'm prepared to take it knowing they'll both go sooner or later.

Had good luck with my stock block and the turbo. I dyno tuned for a max of 9.17 psi on e85 and made 466/490. I took it to the track the very next day. I was hugging the low 11.0 and 11.1 so I turned it up slightly and probably ran a max of high 10 to low 11 psi on a cold day(assuming about 510/530) and ran a 10.91. I had 84k miles on the car when the engine came out and 44k miles boosted. I never ever reved past 6k rpm though.

I mean, blowing my factory motor up only really cost me $600 more than if I would have built it before it blew up.

If you have another car to get to work in, and you're planning on building a motor anyways, screw it. Blow the motor.

Nice times man! I still can't get my car in the 11's, but thats not the cars fault.
