New here guys but looking for help. Not my first mustang but my first pain problem.
I bought a 2013 GT w/90k miles. Mods, Roush cai, ported 18 manifold, 47lb injectors, 91 octane tune by Shaun at AED, resonator delete, Roush axle back. Calimer stage 1 trans.

so the car bogs down occasionally and throws codes p0012 and p0014, I’m thinking vct phasers is the issue but seeing what else people have experienced. I’m not familiar with using forums and it may be talked about previously but dunno. Sometimes it runs strong with no issues other times it falls flat with little power then soon after throws the codes. I’d like to get some opinions before I take apart the timing assembly. Of course the previous owner “has never seen these codes before” , any help appreciated.

The first place to look if you're getting cam position sensor codes is the VCT solenoids. If they're clogged up and dirty, try cleaning them. If that doesn't fix the problem altogether, replace them.

I replaced all 4 solenoids with ford solenoids. Did not fix the issue. I guess I should’ve mentioned that in the description, my apologies. I also did a fresh oil change with Mobil 1 synthetic 5w20.

If you’ve already replaced the vct solenoids then it’s time to tackle the chain, phasers, tensioner, guides, and a new set of plugs while ur at it. Good luck

Yes it would have helped somewhat. :)
Bad phasers will start knocking long before they start throwing cam position sensor codes so if yours are quiet, that would just about rule those out as the culprits.
That leaves worn timing chain guides and that's usually secondary to a bad tensioner allowing the chain to slap around.

So when the car is warm it definitely has the ticking typewriter sound intermittently coming from around the phaser area on passenger side (bank 1). I was thinking this is the infamous “coyote tick” but could this be phaser noise. I am on the verge of ordering the entire Ford Performance can drive kit and might as well throw a new oil pump and crank sprocket both with billet gears(might as well). What do you all think about the ticking? Is that phaser knocking your referring to sound like the coyote tick noise or is the phasers the exact reason for coyote tick?

Bad phasers tick loud more like a click than a tick. If you put your hand on the front of the valve cover you can feel it. Coyote tick sounds more like when you’re coasting on your bicycle and pedal backwards. Barely noticeable. If the chain ever rattles like my eco f150 did I’ll be pissed!

Alright fellas, I really appreciate y’all commenting. And if you think of anything else let me know...I ordered parts, so I’ll let you guys know what happens. I know this car has been beat on at least a bit and I don’t blame them for doing it.. I will too. Thanks

Got the car running last night with all new ford performance cam drive kit with phasers, tensioners, chains, cam filters, guides. Also added a new ford oil pump with boundary billet oil pump gears and a boundary billet crank sprocket. New front main crank seal. Did new vct solenoids about 3 months ago. Cranked it up last night and let it idle so far. Still on jack stands so haven’t drove it yet. Was late and car is loud. I will update on how it runs and fingers crossed I have no codes.... nothing showing up yet but I gotta get it out and drive to know

After driving around a bit , the engine is running nice and quiet, seems like a new coyote again but then I got the dreaded p0012 back again and loss of power... I almost screamed noooooooooooooooo!! Like a dramatic movie scene as I felt it lose power again and I checked the codes... Anybody have any suggestions? My thoughts are maybe problem with the harness or the pcm. I really hope it doesn’t have an oil restriction in the engine somewhere but I wouldn’t think so bc it’s great and powerful then all the sudden it happens again

First thing, the loss of power is due to the pcm shutting the throttle due to the faults. This is normal pcm behavior, it is going into IPC failsafe.

I think you need to contact the cam manufacturer and get info on the cams and what else needs to be done to the engine/pcm when installing those cams. I suspect one of two things: limiters and/or tune changes needed with the cams.

What is you pcm strategy code on the sticker?

Please keep us updated on your progress. You’ve already put in a lot of effort, parts, and money try to rid yourself of these codes.

I really want to know what the final solution is.

Will do bro, I’m currently moving out of state so the mustang is going on back burner for a couple weeks. I’ll post when I get back to it though

Ah! There is the problem. Get gud cams. Lol, jk.

Have you reached out to Shaun at AED to see if a data log can help?
I have not reached out to him, I don’t know how to contact him... I’m one of those people that doesn’t do social media much, I’m reluctant to be on here but I’m looking for help for sure. If anyone has any contact for him that would be great, he is the one who tuned the car previously with the old owner.

@Sactown may have their number or know their correct website.

Just an update... but no progress, I swapped cam pos sensors from left to right heads and problems stayed on bank 1 side. Power lags as soon as oil warms up to normal op temp...this is not giving me a warm and fuzzy, I’m going to try running 50w oil and if my problems go away then I know this motor is pretty loose from abuse.
