Will there will be a run on S197 cars shortly?

Want to talk about expensive? Shitbox square body S-10’s are selling for a fortune around here. A couple of lsx swapped YouTube videos go viral and now everyone wants 5k+ for a v6

I'm with ya on that. I love old cars and I find the cheap/retro themed interiors of the 05-9 to be charming :) To all of you saying there's plenty of 05-09 cars out there, I don't know where you're seeing them because I don't see them in Tampa or Orlando (two large cities). S550's are a dime a dozen on the road, but I rarely see an S197, and when I do, it looks like it just came back from Vietnam :(

I would tend to agree, I don’t ever really see any other S197s around, plenty of Coyote cars but not too many 3v’s. That said I do see a fair few V6s that have had a rough life, those will be the ideal swap candidates down the line. My C/S would probably be classified as one of those beat-to-shit examples but it sounds good, drives nicely and makes me laugh so it’s not going anywhere.

Around my part of town the 90's Nissan Hardbodies are getting the attention/price raise. Weird, I never thought those would be prized.

Not far off from my theory as to why this happens. I suspect people just hold onto their cars even if they don't drive them and then one sells for dumb money and all of a sudden every one of them is worth that dumb money and everyone thinks they'll get rich so they sell them. Foxbody values were steady a few years ago. Then several exceptional cars sold for substantial money. The stream of available cars grew as did the asking prices of all Foxbodies. $5000 or $6000 cars were suddenly being advertised as $8-$9000 cars. Or more if a special model.
I saw a 7-Up model locally about 4 months ago for $10,000 with less than 30,000 miles on it. It was sold within a couple days.

Nissan 240sx’s are the same way. Every beat to shit wannabe drift car is even going for a lot of money. Used to be $500 for a non running decent shape one all day.

I still see a bunch of S197's around here, though the only stock ones seem to be V6's. Most of the GT's (except mine) if nothing else have obnoxiously loud mufflers.

I can trow a rock in any direction from my house and hit an S197. I believe the supply is endless.

Not too many s197’s around me unless they’re v6’s. All the loud mustangs around here are s550’s, and one super loud new edge.

I started seeing foxbodies last few years around here. All really clean looking, but modded to some extent.
Lots of s197 and s550s.
But there has been a lambo going up my street now and then. And OMG the sound of that exhaust! Guy usually rips through two gears. But I digress. lol

I got my 2014 S197 V6 in August 2019 for $20,000 CDN. It didn’t even hit 13,000 kms. 1 previous owner and rust proofed twice but never winter driven and most likely kept in a garage most of the time as the exterior is mint. Right now it hasn’t hit 21,000 kms yet. I’ll be keeping it for a while.

Think they will stay cheaper than most S550's for a while. Everything I look at seems like it's going for big money UNTIL I try to sell something, anything, LOL!!, then there are not even any bites.

Don't matter to me, still have my 86 Capri 5.0 I bought new, and 3 other vehicles I bought new (03 EVO8/05 Dodge Diesel/Stang). Have 2 broncos I've had 20-25 years (70/79). I don't seem to ever get rid of anything.

Clean low mile one owner GT will burst out first with V6 S197 lagging pretty far behind, similar to what all classic 'Stangs are experiencing. Mustang was a performance car first, so those with snipped cojones will always be a "bargain alternative to getting into a classic Mustang".

What is visible on the surface does not reflect the actual situation. Fox bodies are hot, many sellers looking at the auction results and offer their pride and joy for same amount as the last crazy bid on Bring a trailer. Those that are not in the know, lazy or impatient will bite the bullet and go for it. Those wth patience will be rewarded as there are still plenty of reasonably priced good Foxes. Ford built 2.6 million of this model (all configurations combined). I am not talking about Cobra and SSP cars here but clean GT can still be had in 4 digits.

I saw Bullit and GT500 mentioned in prior several posts but no mention of Saleen S197. Right now a higher mileage ones can be found in low teens. That is pretty much the bottom of the market for these cars. With SN95 dragging the price points down Saleen S197 will remain so but for a short period of time due to the limited supply and more people looking for an "affordable" limited production muscle cars.

I drive/ride everything I own and my DD is a 2006 Saleen with 98k miles. Its a manual NA car that is in very good condition, not a show vehicle or trailer queen. It does what it was designed for, i.e. to be thoroughly enjoyed. Right now Porsche 996 is the bargain poster child for the P brand. The 995 Turbo, a sub 4 second car can be bought for $40-$50k. Their NA aspirated coupes and convertibles are scraping the bottom of the barrel at $16k+. At times I am tempted to get one but limited space in the garage allows for only one car (and shit load of bikes ))) However, as temped as I am to go with the P-car I cannot come up with a single reason why it should replace my Saleen. On the other hand I can find few reasons why it should't. I don't see selling Saleen, I think I finally found my "it" car.

For those believing S197 market will explode soon, I wouldn't hold my breath and/or conserve your GT. Drive it and enjoy it. With over 800k gen 5 Mustangs produced there will be a generous supply on the market for a very long time. Special editions, Saleen and Roush cars notwithstanding.

lolol
I get bites followed by an insulting lowball offer. Maybe they are thinking I need to sell. Who knows.
Put my 99 gsxr out front last year. Very clean, 12k on the clock. Asked 3500 that included me mounting a new set of tires supplied by new owner. Got offered $2000 via text after he left. Didnt even respond.

I remember how everyone thought I was crazy in 1979 for buying a 1970 Mustang with a spun rod bearing for $1000. The guy I bought it from offered me $10,000. 8 years ago. He thought I should sell it back to him since I parked it in my garage and never repaired it. I think I will hold on to that car a while longer. I think I can get a little more for that old 70 Boss 302.

Thing must be a time capsule if it’s never been touched! Pics?

No there won't be a run on S197 cars. Fors made a stagering number of V8 cars from '05 up. plenty to fo around at reasonable prices. you will just have to pay for low mileage cars accordingly.

Realize that 2005 cars are 16 years old now. And the tech in them is way out of date. Electric cars, for all the hub-bub, are still a dream and wide spread adoption is still 10-15 years out. Their are power generation and delivery issues to be addressed. Battery range and recharge issues to be addressed. And that takes time and money. LOTS of money.
We all can agree there is a ‘run’ on fox bodies and has been for quiet awhile with no end in sight and the prices are still climbing. Take into consideration Ford made 2.6 million of those. Ford made 656,000 05-09 Mustangs. Give them another 20 years.
Chrysler made 315,000 70-74 E body’s. Think about that 315,000 we are not talking low production and 10k may get you something you drag out of the woods today. Maybe not depending on what it is.
The 05-09 will have its day eventually. Maybe it will be the next coyote/Godzilla swap king time will tell.

The front of the '15-'17 models looks like the face of a ninja, and the front of the '18-'21 models looks like the face of an angry ninja. At 7000rpm, the Coyote sounds like an angry ninja too.
I swear if you squat down 15 feet away from the front of an 18-20 model, you will realize you're looking at a damn catfish! Do it, I swear you will see it!

It won't explode, but low mileage, clean, one-owner GT's will fetch a nice price. It will be years before that happens though. I mentioned the Bullitt and GT500, but I belive their prices will fluctuate. Two cars that will only increase in price are the Saleen Parnelli Jones and the Shelby GT's. They are already close to $30k and will only go up as each new year approaches.
