Kooks longtubes Problems Already! UPDATED

Ok so most of you saw my post about my kooks longtubes with catted h-pipe I installed just a week ago on my 2010 mustang. I have started to hear a rattle the last few days when I would leave for work. Its really tough to hear something because my car is so much louder now. So this morning I decided to put the car back up on the lift at work to investigate. I grabbed a rubber mallet and started to tap around and see what I could find. The noise was coming from right around the cat area so I removed both O2 sensors in the cats and managed to stick my pinkie in the sensor hole and felt that both catalyst have come loose and are rattling around in the cat. Im extremely upset over this issue and emailed maryland speed in hopes they may help me out since I just bought the longtubes a week ago. This is my daily driver and I cant leave my car down long enough to send kooks my cat sections and wait for an answer. I bought the best in hopes something like this wouldnt happen but it seems some poor workmanship went into my exhaust. Has anyone else had this issue before? I have tried searching but came up with nothing.

First I've heard of it with the Kooks on these cars. I've had mine on for a couple of years and keep checking the cats when I can and all has been fine. You'll get it worked out, but have patience, you run into things like this when going aftermarket...even with the best parts.

Just curious what is the catalyst made of? Maybe it was banged up during shipping and finally worked its way loose. I know when I take my stock pipe off I try not to drop the cats on the concrete in fear of breaking it inside.

Im pretty sure its ceramic. Yeah Im always careful when dealing with something like this. The box they came in looked fine and I was extremely careful installing them since I just paid 1200 bucks for the setup.

I had the same problem back in the day with my jba h pipe with cats. I ended up having high flow cats welded in their place and never had a problem again. I want to say they were the magnaflow race version cats but it's been a long time.

Hey, be careful poking the catalyst... that shit is a carcinogen. This is God's way of saying to run an offroad setup.

I have read before where aftermarket cats had failed, not sure if there was a rattle and if they were kooks brand. Makes me wonder since I had read that after I installed mine. If mine go south I am gonna cut them out and weld in some resonators.

OP, I would be freaking pissed if I were you. I hope you find a solution soon. Good luck man.

Been there done that. The president of Maryland speed emailed me back. Not the most pleasant guy. I ended up dealing with Kooks directly. Excellent customer service. I had mine professionally installed and had some really great support from my tuner. Didn't really need it once I spoke with someone at kooks. They are pretty fast turn around too, like 1 businesss day. Good luck with it

Btw, I had another rattle too, mostly when I turned left. Turned out the header was rubbing on the car on the passengar side and we moved the motor about a 1/8 of an inch. It's mostly gone now. I have to be wot and turning hard left to here it.

My High Flow cats fucked themself up after 1000 miles and in turn resulted in me blowing my motor. Kooks told me to basically go fuck myself that it isn't their fault. Good Luck!

Thanks for giving me some hope. I will be calling both companies on Monday. If they are quick with warranty stuff I could possibly have the car back up and running by the end of the week since ground shipping from them is only 2 days. I will keep updating this thread as things progress.

I guess it doesnt help that my last car I had I got rid of because I battled with a company about an issue with a 5000 dollar turbo kit for a year and jumped through all kinds of hoops for them to just continuously screw me over and not honor what they said. I was so sick of dealing with it I got rid of the car. I hope Kooks is a better company.

Sorry to hear that man. I didnt not read your complete thread on your engine build but I thought that your tune was very rich which in turn clogged your cats up?

From the very first turn of the key I was having the problem. I hardly think they immediatley failed. That would be the most crazy thing ever.

I have the Kooks headers and ran the catted X pipe for over a year with no problems. I recently went to an offroad X after installing a supercharger. My catted X had very tightly wound thin metal inside. If yours are made like that, I don't see how they would ever get loose. Kooks makes top quality stuff, apparently you just got a rare defective set of cats. Hopefully you can get it resolved without any problems.

Oh no, Im telling you... That's the wound up wire stuff you are speaking of. Mine blew itself out. The other side is still clogged and in need of being gutted.

That's why I got mine outa there once I put the blower on. Now I don't have to worry about that happening. By the way, how much boost were you running. Gheesh!

3.2" pulley. They were somehow clogged so it built 17lbs and blew my motor.
