The spacer works with the Whipple? I coudn't find one - do you have a link to it?

I will see if I have the pic still when I get to work

we tapped one for nitrous on the top of the "ramp" that leads to the IC core.

There is a company that makes a spacer drilled for meth that works great as well.

btw you do not want to spray up into the rotors, you will damage them

BBR have a plate for water/meth on the KB it may be easier to mod that to work.

For some reason the finished pic got deleted.

We used a dry NX nozzle to go thru and shot the meth thru it.

tapped that part of the intake and faced it down the ramp towards the IC core

FYI - I heard from Michael at Whipple.

I had sent him the same image I posted earlier in this thread and he said the best place to inject water/meth is either the compressor inlet between the throttle body and blower * or * do a direct port injection on each intake runner. He did mention that I had *no worries* spraying into the compressor.

The port injection is certainly doable but I'm not necessarilly looking for a power increase - only cooling and regaining power lost from heat soak. I believe that the port injection method would work best if I were spraying a high level of methanol and was tuned for it.

That leaves me with the inlet injection or possibly the spray plate (but don't really want to lower the motor). I also think I could drill and tap the inlet without removing the blower.

If I did this to my setup I probably wouldn't even use it between Oct & Apr because the weather is cool enough here (at least in the evenings) to prevent too much heat soak. It would be for use between May & Oct basically. I lose significant power from heat soak during summer and am looking for a way to alleviate that. A new h/e is on the way, too.

Spraying water/meth helped my ProCharged F150 plenty during our hot season but I got no gain from it when it was cold outside because I really didn't tune for it.

Probably a 30% chance of me even doing this - just kicking it around right now.

Thanks for the pic. That's worth looking into as well.

What did you eventually end up doing?

Did you notice Jared Rosen's article in MM&FF where he drilled a hole in the case of his Whipple to cool it down with Snow Meth Kit?

Crazy but wondering if it's possible to drill a hole on each side of my Whipple 140AX blower right at the base where the intercooler/aftercooler attaches to it? I think the case is made of cast aluminum???

Still thinking of putting water injection on the car and don't think it's worth it to spray it pre-blower. Thinking if I can spray it right after the compressor it'd be ok. Problem is only way I can see spraying right after the compressor is to drill holes in my blower :)

A "spray plate" would be cool but I'm not aware of one for the Whipple and it's a tight fit under the hood as it is.

How much would you spend in an intercooler upgrade that included a new intercooler, different plumbing (more volume in and out), HIGH volume water pump (7.5x bigger than the “stock pumps”), battery located catch tank/overflow and everything but the lines (those would be customer preference)?

I have done some testing with bigger pumps/lines but have not made test intercoolers yet to get on the dyno. I have seen huge decreases in IAT’s already (you can damn near go unlimited runs with no heat soak) and Bell intercoolers where I get my cores from is telling me that I could see a 65-75% increase in cooling with the correct plumbing/pump combo.

The potential IAT drops are almost as good (limited to ambient temps) as meth injection but unlike meth the IAT’s advantages are there all the time. And there are no extra systems to fail.

I’m considering doing some kits and I have a 2.3L Whipple on the bench right now that I am tinkering with to see the best way of going about it.

the lightning guys have been spraying pre-blower for years. why not try that and not drill into a 1500$ manifold. check it on a short road test/dyno run to make sure you get it down to the temps you want. if you still need a cooler charge then maybe check into a small shot of nitrous pre-blower to bring the intake charge down as much as possible.

if you are a machinist then i think you will be ok, but if your going to try it on your own without any prior experience then i would hold off and get a machine shop to do it.

FWIW, i used to spray meth and a small wet shot before the blower on my lightning for a long time to cool the ported eaton down before i went to a kenne bell. worked great and i could run a ton of timing in boost.
