Just thought I'd say hi.

I am a proud S197 owner in Kansas. Had my car to the track this weekend, best pass was a 14.11 stumbled on here looking for some info on cost effective mods. I will probably wear out the search function in the next week or so.

there are a bunch of cost effective mods in the classifieds :) . check classifieds in a few diffrent forums also. some people are getting the new 5.0 and parting out thier old S197s.

as far as going faster the best 1st mod IMO is to get a JLT(or C&L, suit your own fancy) and a tuner package. a cheap way to do this is to look for an intake in the classifieds, and then look for a tuner(make sure it is appropriate for you year and transmission). either way once you have a tuner that unlocks ALOT of options with what you can do with your car to include getting email tunes and just downloading them into your car. you mentioned in the title that you are now to feul injection, unless you are trying to fine tune it yourself the new technology actually makes life 1000x easier.

if not you can do what I did and just drop $500 on a new intake/tuner package.

also if drag racing is your thing get upper and lower control arms. they help alot, espcially the upper. I suggest J&M as I have had good experience with them. I broke a sphon upper driving over railroad tracks. just whatever you get I heavily suggest getting an upper bushing that allows the rear to rotate freely as the car rolls left and right. but bear in mind I am big on keeping my cars ability to turn as well as launch.

I could ramble on forever but intake, tuner, and new rear control arms covers just about any type of racing I would concievibly do to this car. only way I would not do an intake first is if I had the money to go boost as soon as I had the car.

Well I'd say part of it was the track conditions, and part of it was the driver. I had a really hard time getting the car to hook. The one time it did hook it had severe wheel hop goin on so i'd say control arms would help. not really sure what i'm gonna do to it yet. that was my first trip to the track with a 5spd car so it took a little feeling out. I only made 4 or 5 passes and my attention was divided playing crew cheif for my buddies 56 chevy shoebox car. all in all it was fun though. I think some drag radials, gears, 1pc drive shaft, CAI, and a tune should wake it up quite a bit

Yep. Add the lower control arms and you will notice a marked improvement at the track. Add relocation brackets as well if you are lowered to get the LCA's angled right.
