i have messed my up my body on the 2005 mustang gt premium too many times and tired of having that ''salvaged" stigma lol ... i found a really nice looking donor car with clean title ... same year make model and trim ... i have a custom tune on the original mustang (intake/cams/cat delete/lito tuned) .. i was wondering what all i need to do during this swap .. can i just swap motor/trans un marry my tuner and slap the tuner on the new (donor) car ?
do i need to swap ecu ?

doing a clutch kit also since every thing will be out and probably about time lol ...

any help will be appreciated and any tips tricks or advice on other things to do while iam in this deep lol
thanks

You should be able to just swap the engine/transmission, unmarry your tuner from your damaged car, and marry it to the donor car.
However you might not be able to upload the new tune into the donor car's ECU if it has a different strategy code. Therefore you'll need to check the four-letter strategy code sticker that's on the ECU casing. If it's different you'd have two options:

1. Get a revised tune that's compatible with your donor car ECU's strategy code.

2. Swap the ECU from the damaged car into the donor car. However that ECU won't have the correct VIN number. I'm not sure if that would be a problem for the PATS not recognising it and cause a no start situation. Perhaps someone else can enlighten me on that.

i was talking with a buddy and he said if i have to change the ecu i need to change the ignition also ... assuming that would fix the pats ... not 100 sure tho

You would need to change the ring around the ignition and use a key from the car the PCM/ECU came from; of course replacing the PCM, too.
At least you have a 05 to 05, no wiring issues otherwise.

Another option is to change the PCM and reprogram PATS in it to recognize the keys that fit the car.
(A dealership or someone with Forscan or IDS can program PATS.)
