09 3v into 06 car what do I have to change?

Hi all,

Building ‘06 gt with my son, it’s his first car and my first project since old school v8’s (1970-1980’s). Original engine is 06 4.6 3v that is cooked. Found a decent mileage running 09 3v, what would I have to do to use this engine until we build an “fun” engine fit it down the road?

Throttle body, intake, pcm etc?

Same motor, maybe an oil temp sensor on the pan of one and not the other IIRC. Swap the long block and use you current pan and covers.

i did this last year,,,
the only difference was the spark plugs and the coolant tubing ,, which you can use either one,

the body harnesses plugs are different for the pcm,, but that means nothing to you ,,,

Electrically, nothing I can think of. Spark plugs changed (as mentioned already). They really didn't do much to the 3V from 05-09.

If you can use your '06 engine harness, that's the best solution. The '09 harness is not 100% the same as the '06 and you will have problems getting it to work without modifications.
The only 2 wiring differences, which you may not even encounter, are the a/c compressor clutch (not a problem if you keep your '06 compressor or delete it), and the 2 top 1-wire noise suppressor capacitors at the front of each head (they are round vs. square, but those can be swapped/changed or direct-wired).
As mentioned, there is no oil pan sensor on the '09, hence no place to plug the '06 oil pan temp sensor plug into. Leaving it unhooked will cause a DTC for that circuit, which can be tuned out. Or of course you could swap oil pans and keep the one with your current sensor.

FWIW, I'm running a '09 engine in my '05 with a '06 engine harness and pcm.

im running an 09 harness in an 05
06 motor ,,
my A\C is deleted , so i dont plug that in.
my 05 \ 05 motor came with a oil pan sensor on it,, its not plugged in as i dont have the in the 09 harness.
but it is plug and play,, you wont have issues
