I did. I don't know if its necessary, but my tuner told me to do so.

Ironically, we have the same tuner, and he told me to do it too. Just wondering of others are as well, but it doesn't seem like it...

Did you 6R80 guys do the crank relearn procedure after you swapped your converters or no?

I have no clue what this means or if my installer did this after putting in my Circle-D. Somebody please enlighten me so I can ask my installer the correct question.

I'm pretty sure it can cause a misfire code, especially if you installed a flywheel and the reluctor ring moved just a little.. I would ask around your local area to see if you could borrow someone's x4 just to do the relearns, instead of taking it to the dealer.

Brian, it's just a simple relearn procedure to correctly locate the crank. I also did a KAM (keep alive memory) reset. Both took just a few minutes with my x4.

I didnt do it when my 4c was installed. But i think i remember mike at MAP sending it as part of my tune. As a matter of fact i was having a cold start issue before mike started tuning for me. Hmmmmm

The tune is unrelated to getting the procedure done. As far as I know, nothing in the tune from Mike or others has anything to do with the crank relearn. From what I'm reading, as long as the flexplate isn't changed/moved, there shouldn't be a reason to do it.

The kam reset was seperate from the tune and he told me to run it first

KAM reset is unrelated to crank relearn as well. But yes, it's recommended that you do that when switching tunes as well.

Never heard that before. Usually I am only told by my tuner (Mike from MAP) to do a KAM reset if there was an issue. Do you install the stock tune before going to a new tune as well, I know many do that too? I thought I read awhile back that loading a new tune kinda did a KAM reset on it's own, guess not.

I'll be racing at Bremerton on April 17th. Just test n tune until I can get my reaction times figured out against the stall converter. Too many red lights in the -.0XX's currently so I have to leave a bit later.

How did your car do on Sunday?

Is Bremerton any less strict about tech? Do they prep well?

I wouldn't call them unreasonably strict, but they do enforce the rules for everyone's safety. I believe Pacific Raceways is less strict, and hence more cars break at PR, wasting everyone's time waiting for cleanup.

Bremerton prep's decently. Lots of VHT traction compound available. My sixty foot times are the same at both tracks.

I'm guessing you haven't installed a roll bar yet?

So, here is an updated chronology of my mods since day one. I bought this '14 GT in July 2013. Best ET from each change to my car...

First mods: SCT Tuner with canned 91 octane tune and M&H Drag Radials (28" tall). DA 1000-1700' above sea level...

1.943 = 60'
5.367 = 330'
8.156 @ 88.03 = 1/8 mile
10.565 = 1000'
12.601 @ 111.15 = 1/4 mile

Next round of mods added: Bama race tune, 5,000 rpm Circle-D 4E stall converter, and 1-piece aluminum driveshaft from Shaftmasters. DA 100-400' below sea level (same level of mods on a day with DA in the 300-900 above sea level was about 2 tenths and 1.5 mph slower, by the way)...

1.655 = 60'
4.912 = 330'
7.664 @ 89.07 = 1/8 mile
10.040 = 1000'
12.036 @ 113.13 = 1/4 mile

Next round of mods added: 4.10 gears & Mike Rousch tuning. I also ran the Bama race tune back to back with Mike's tune and found virtually no difference in ET's between the two tunes, but Mike's tune is so much better for drivability that he is the go-to-guy for tuning 6R80's!!! DA in the -100 to +100 range.

1.622 = 60'
4.830 = 330'
7.515 @ 90.34 = 1/8 mile
9.836 = 1000'
11.802 @ 114.82 = 1/4 mile

Next round of mods added: Pypes O/R H-pipe with revised tuning by Mike Rousch. DA was 200-900' above sea level, so worse air, but marginally better ET's anyway.

1.627 = 60'
4.794 = 330'
7.480 @ 91.21 = 1/8 mile
9.807 = 1000'
11.786 @ 114.02 = 1/4 mile

Next changes: Had to put the factory 2-pc driveshaft back in temporarily, but also added GT500 axlebacks. DA 850-1000', so the air was a bit worse, yet the ET didn't really change much & the trap speed really woke up several mph! Who would have thought the factory mufflers were so restrictive on the tall end of the track!

1.638 = 60'
4.835 = 330'
7.529 @ 91.13 = 1/8 mile
9.849 = 1000'
11.804 @ 117.70 = 1/4 mile

Next round of mods: Was able to get the 1-pc driveshaft back in the car, but zero changes otherwise. DA very similar in the 700-800' range.

1.627 = 60'
4.811 = 330'
7.498 @ 91.57 = 1/8 mile
9.811 = 1000'
11.761 @ 117.03 = 1/4 mile

New for the 2015 racing season I added big & littles. SVE 17x4.5" front wheels and 15x10" rear wheels. 275/60/15 M/T ET Street drag radials. This took 68 lbs off my car. DA was in the -300' to -200' range.

1.627 = 60'
4.752 = 330'
7.384 @ 93.23 = 1/8 mile
9.658 = 1000'
11.570 @ 117.55 = 1/4 mile

It's interesting to me that the much-lighter wheel and tire combo didn't perk up the trap speed more, especially since the DA was close to 1000' better on this last trip. Headwind/tailwind playing a factor? Or is the horsepower nosing over so much at around 117mph in 4th gear that it just doesn't want to go faster than that?
