So I'm just planning at this point. I'm trying to get ideas/ estimates on what a super POWER BUILD would cost.
The stage 3 build puts out roughly 650 HP.
What would I need to replace in a stock motor to handle this?
I definitely know the tranny would need to be swapped.
Forged rods / pistons.
Any specific brands/recommendations?

A 5.0 will outrun this thing with a few minor bolt ons!

This must be an automatic car, otherwise why touch the transmission?

Why do people continue with this narrative? A boosted 4.6 will have more wheel HP than a bolt on 5.0, as well as more torque -- all other things equal.

Yes, the ceiling is higher with a 5.0 if you are willing to boost it.

It's much simpler to build a naturally aspirated 5.0, add some l&m intake cams, a gt350 manifold, a gt350 trans or magnum xl. Proven, runs nice and cool, rip 'em and go!!

Source: owns a heat soaking low revving dog of a supercharged 4.6 that cost a king's ransom ;)

LOL, I won't argue that you'll spend $ to keep it cool. But, you'll spend some serious $ chasing small HP increments on the 5.0 with bolt-on after bolt-on, assuming you're not boosting it. Cheers

...the 5.0 has roughly enough power as it shows up to the party. The mods I listed are all you'd ever do beyond a used exhaust setup of your choice.

I assume you already have the car? If not, I have a friend with a professionally built 2005, with the best of everything. He has about 120,000 Canadian into it and would probably let it go for half that. His initial goal was 1000hp, unknown what it’s putting to the ground because it spun the tires on the dyno. It’s never been down a track, maybe a couple of hundred miles on the build.

I have agree the 'buy a 5.0' argument is old and does not always apply. I have a 2007 Mustang GT, I dont want a 5.0 So here are some reasons I built out my S197 and did not buy a 5.0:

  • I like the look of the S197 (2005-2009)
  • I already OWN it outright (buying a 5.o would require a payment)
  • I like the look of the Edelbrock Supercharger kit.
  • I dont need the fastest thing on the road, I just want something neat to show at the meet(s) and enough power to make me happy.
  • 5.0 are like belly buttons 'everyone has one'.

I do love my NA 4.6, reliable as fuck. Don't have to deal with a complicated setup.
Has 135k miles and maybe 400 1/4 passes and the engine itself has never had an issue.

I do love the feeling of people asking me what shot I'm running after busting off some low 12's (high 11's if the weather is right) in my old 3v. Maybe I get off on doing more with less, instead of not standing out in the sea of 5.0's and supercharged cars of varying amounts of horsepressures.

I wonder if my car would even break into the 11's. Goddamn heat soaked 3v!

I was at a racetrack last week, the DA was about 1700 and it was in the 80's and the car still ran 12.17 @ 115mph on the new Lito tune.. so when the weather gets cool and I have a good launch in the 1.6's it's gonna run REEEAAALLL nice.

But yea racing in the heat is not even a good idea, besides sweating your ass off the cars don't run great (NA that is)

I was also thinking of doing E force supercharger on mine, was also looking at the 5.0 swap as well, seems more cost effective. But seems more labor intensive, But then again if you want big power you have to build the bottom end so it’s a wash really.

5.0 Aluminator + PD blower.... + tranny...lol.

I think Brenspeed still sells their B326.. which will drop right into any 05-10 car.

Personally, I love my 3v. I built this thing with my own hands. I nearly have every bolt on possible. The look/sound of the 05-09 is my favorite Gen mustang(HANDS DOWN). I don't ever want to get rid of this car. Torch red with carbon fiber hood. This is my dream car. Putting down more power with my car is a goal. As stated, too many people have 5.0 and I don't want to jump on that wagon. I'd rather carve my own path. I'm just seeing what's the relative cost + what parts are needed so I can start planning. Slowly but surely, buying parts and saving money for this awesome power build. But as of now, Im extremely happy with the current car. I will only boost it when I have every single part needed for the build. I started making a list so I can check off items as I get em.

PEPPER is my girl and never will I let her go :banana-mario::bleh::driver::flipthebird::happythumbs:

I have an absolutely killer set of stage 3 CNC ported heads with big ass valves and stage 3 cams I made 700/700 with on my 3 valve. Heads, cams lock out sprockets (not limited stock sprockets-these are the real deal) and a set of head studs. Heads were recently freshened up at AED.
I've gone to the dark side (Coyote) so my 3 valve stuff is going fast.
$2200.00 (I have triple that invested)IMG_5905.JPG 1379520_10151920573148535_857598340_n.jpg 1489256_10152063080318535_393009428_n.jpg 1525463_10152063080108535_765427173_n.jpg ATTACH=full]70316[/ATTACH] IMG_5903.JPG IMG_5906.JPG

I had oversize valves installed, machined, CNC ported on brand new ford racing Castings.
No expense was spared.
The motor flowed so well the Kenne Bell 2.6 blower was maxed out.
JDM engineering who built the motor said I could make an easy 100 whp more with a blower upgrade. These heads are the best money can buy.
