im using a 2013 pump with TSS gears, so im on the 2013 sping and valve.

OK.
There was much debate about putting the spring out of the GT pump in and removing the GT500 spring. I never got a definite answer. Something about the GT500 spring raising the pressure. I think I'll run the spring that came in the new GT500 oil pump and like you, I have TSS gears to put in.

My oil pump was built by JDM; it was listed as a FRPP High Volume oil pump with billet gears.
I have no idea what spring it has.

My oil pressure does not drop to 20PSI at idle. Lowest I have seen it is 40 PSI so far.
I will let you know how low it drops at the track.

i wish i could find a chart or something that would show the equal viscosity at different temps, 10w is suppose to be good down to -20*, my normal start up is probably between 85-95* so id like to know just what viscosity it is at in those temps.

Good for what clearances though? When I was growing up all we could get was 10w-xx and it got colder than -20 in the winter. IIRC the tractors got straight weight oils changed for the seasons. A regular car or pickup motor that made it 100k was considered a hell of a motor back then in those conditions.

I've seen the comparisons of oil just by the numbers and I'm not convinced. I do think that for where you live your choice isn't going to hurt the motor over the long run. It's all speculation anyway. Mod motors are pretty good about taking what's thrown at them and surviving.

Its advertised as a 8.5 quart pan and it takes less than 8 quarts to fill it?

I just changed my oil and 8 quarts overfilled the pan!!??
Now what do I do...? sigh

I have no idea if you had considered this option or not.

So I'll do this post and give you the information so if you were not aware of this you will be now.

I usually try to not post on other peoples Threads about what Brenspeed has done to mine.

I think you have been on this INTERNET Site long enough you know why I don't.

In your case I will make the exception as you seem to be a Stand-Up-Fellow and I think you might like to know this.

You are just making me jealous of your oil pan and side drain port/plug as I have clearance issues with the BMR a-arm support bar and my drain plug. I can't fit a socket over it. So I have to use a wrench. Its a PITA to torque it to spec. sigh
Yes, I torque my drain plug...I am anal like that. lol

Thats a really nice pan... Wow...
(I don't like all the mods though...but they seem simple enough.

Gerald, have you cranked the car? I have a moroso oil pan, not a gt500, mine takes 9 quarts when it says its only a 8.

but what im getting at is the oil filter holds oil and some of the passages in the motor hold oil. so when im changing my oil, i drop in 8 quarts, run the motor for about 1/2 a minute to get oil in all te right places then check my oil in about an hour to top it off.

im sure bruce or skwerl can chime in on the capacity of the pan.

when you drained the oil out did you have the car tilted back so all the old oil would drain out?

Skwerl had the same, maybe becuase it is a gt500 oil pan, they may need more oil becuase they have the oil cooler? so the probably use a different dip stick or alot of oil gets trapped in the oil cooler?

i just fill mine to the full line each time. but by now i know it takes exactly 9 quarts on my moroso 8 quart pan,lol

Hey Paul, yes I pre-filled my oil filter, then poured in the reminder of the used quart into the motor, then poured 7 more quarts.

Fired up the motor, drove it 2 miles around the block and parked it over night. Checked the level in the morning.

When I get ready for an oil change, I have these jack ramps, raises the car just enough to slide a jack underneath...but yes I left the car tilted overnight when I change out the oil.

Seems like others have experienced the same issue... So far its between 7.8 quarts to 8 quarts.

Wondering if its OK to run the car with 0.5 quarts over...?? I can't see it doing any harm as oil level substantially drops when the motor is running.

sounds like your good to go, just drain enough out to show full on your dip stick. ive over filled mine before 1/4 quart or so and drove on it for long trips...never hurt anything.

like i posted above,im guessing the 8.5 comes from the extra oil the gt500 uses in the oil cooler?

I was actually thinking that if the oil-pan you installed does not hold the 8-quarts of oil.

Then a Canton oil pan that I know does hold 8-quarts of oil.

And as you noticed it is super easy to get to the drain-plug for oil changes.

BTW,
The Canton was suppose to fit with no modifications per Canton Tech Support when I and George talked with them.
As you saw that damn sure was not the case !!!

Drained the break-in oil; filled with Joe Gibbs Driven DT40 and a FRPP oil filter.

Also got some heat wrap for the fuel lines going to the fuel rails, been experiencing 150 degree fuel temps.

8 quarts in...

8 quarts over filled...its closer to 7.5 quarts.

So far so good, temps have decreased by 30 degrees. Real test will be tomorrow.
