Yeah, not sure why he bought a manual and converted to power-glide when more autos were made than 6 speeds. I can see why you did the Bullitt since all OEM's were manuals, but it seems alot of work for a GTO that could have simply been traded.
:shakehead:
Palerider,

Here is the Rest-of-the-Story on the GTO.
Jon bought it from the guy that purchased it new.
The reason the guy ended up asking Jon if he would be interested in buying it was because the shop closed that was working on it.
So that guy was simply Fed-Up and threw his hands up and said I'm done.
(That happens more often than people think)
Jon made the guy a cash offer and that fellow took the offer.
The GTO had over $100K spent on it by original owner.
Unfortunately it was not finished so when Jon bought it he took it to a local performance shop DBR Performance in Springhill, TN. and they completed the work on it.
https://www.dbrhighperformance.com/index.php
Jon drove it a little with the then manual tranny but it was just to hard to control and a pain to drive.
So, he then changed it to the Powerglide complete set-up it has right now.
He just made the tranny change a few weeks ago.

I did get a text from Jon this morning and below is the Dyno results of both his cars.

656 RWHP below.

The GTO is,

871 RWHP below.

Awesome build thread! I just got done reading, it took me several days but it was very enjoyable.

I like everything that's been done to the car cosmetically and mechanically. My favorite cosmetically, is the carbon fiber hood. So glad you didn't paint it completely.

Thanks Terry for taking the time to document and post all the details. It was a great read.

Well another Super-Fine-Day with the "tiger-machine" ...

Hello Gang,

Well had another excellent day on Wednesday of this week.

Decided to take it to the Federal Emissions Testing Center since it was not another rainy day.

Sunny outside and No-Rain so off I went.
Took it to the testing center as the pictures below will show.
Then went to get the new license plate sticker at the County Court Clerk's office here in Franklin, TN.
Man what a long-long line to get the renewal tag done.
I was there for maybe an hour waiting in line.

Below are some quick pictures I took.

The guy in my lane doing the testing was all into the Bullitt.
tango_face_smile.png

He said what does that 1000R mean ???
I told him and he said well it must be right as it just past with flying colors buddy.

So Brent at Brenspeed did do his thing for tuning no doubt.

All set for another year guys.

Well after doing the emissions thing I dropped by to hang out with Jon for awhile as his shop (Lexpro) is right close to the Cnty. Clerk's Place.

That turned out to be a really fun afternoon and evening.
Jon said you want to take a ride ???
I said sure I'm not real busy
tango_face_grin.png

So we took off to Fayetteville, TN. to check out an SS Chevelle.
So we got there and met the guy and Jon checked it out.
He made the guy an offer and we left and headed back to the shop.
Not long passed and Jon gets a call from the fellow to come get the Chevelle.
We hooked up the trailer to the truck and off we went.
It was dark so no pictures of us getting it.
So now he has a SS Chevelle with a 454 Cubic Inch engine for sell.
It was done on a rotisserie so it looks brand new underneath.
Has a brand new factory color paint job.

It was a Fun Day for sure as we went back to his house and hung out that evening after stopping for Mexican at a close to house restaurant.

Love me a Chevelle. He should take it to Cars and Coffee tomorrow.
Ryan,

I could have gotten him to do that but Monday is his B-Day.
His girl friend took him to FL. for it so they left this evening.
They will be back on Wednesday this coming week.

The Chevelle does look pretty darn good as the paint job is only a few months old.

I was over at Jon's shop this afternoon as they did a little B-Day grilling thing for him.
While hanging out a guy came and checked out the Chevelle closely.
He told Jon his wife is wanting one so it might soon have a new home already.

What happened? Where's the patented Tiger "thumbs up" from this guy?
Jim,

Actually his other hand was suppose to be doing the thumbs-up but he forgot that part of the staged picture.

They were really busy so I did not keep him any-longer doing pictures.
There was a big line behind me so did not want to hold the other people up any-longer.

You have a good eye for detail.

The SS Chevelle does look darn good even up close.

I have already been there and done that so I'll pass on this one.

Terry

This was a Show Car but it also was driven on the street as my Bullitt Mustang is.
It is a 1970 SS Chevelle with a New Crate LS-7 454 Cu In Engine.
I had the complete car put back new.

Been a very busy few days for me ..............

Hello all,

Well I decided to finally do a complete detail on the Bullitt this past Sunday.
So started early and got done around 8:00 pm that evening.
I jacked it way up and put it on jack-stands for safety.
As I actually slid under it and gave it a thorough cleaning underneath.
It took awhile but it did need to be done and it turned out pretty good for me doing it on my back.

Then I did the rest of it once I let it down off the jack-stands.
Cleaned the inside and did the vacuum thing as well.
Finally when I have it completely cleaned I put a coat of Meguiar's paste wax on it.
Never used the wax before but my thinking is it will hold up better than the liquid Meguiar's.
It went on easy enough but guys it's not as easy to remove as the liquid so be warned.
In-fact my right hand & fingers hurt so bad I barely could hold the micro-fiber cloth in it to apply enough pressure to get the wax removed.
So I tried using my left hand more until even my left hand & fingers began to hurt.
It could be that I am simply a "Wimp" at this age but I've never had any issues with my hands before so.
My doggone hands & fingers hurt all night even after taking several Advil that evening.
Maybe it was the combination of lying on my back doing the underneath side first that contributed to it.
I'm not sure I will use the wax again though as it was not all that easy to remove as I said.

I took some pictures of doing some of this I'll post below.

As you can see it's pretty high up in the air for me to get way underneath it.

It turned out pretty darn good for lying on one's back doing the cleaning.

I also jacked up the rear also to do each wheel and the inner fender-wells.

Here is the New Meguiar's Wax I used this time.

The instructions said to apply to complete car and let turn to a haze before removing.
(I left it on for approximately 1-Hour) in heated garage to 70-degrees.

Here are some pictures of it completed but now it was dark outside.
So pictures don't look all that great.

Well moving right along .............
I decided to take it to DBR Performance in Springhill, TN. it is about 11-miles from my house.
GPS said it was like 20 minutes or so to it.
DBR High Performance

newBuilding-banner.jpg

If you recall that's where several of my buddies have had their cars worked on.

Jon that owns Lexpro,

And also Tim that has the Red Mustang with the Whipple and runs on E-85.

image.php

So my thinking is if those guys trust DBR there is no reason why I should not give them a try.
They are a heck of a lot closer than the approximately 16-hour drive to Brenspeed in Pierceton, IN.

So mine was now completely detailed inside, underneath and outside with a complete wax job.
Monday was like 72-degrees here and sunny so an excellent time to drop mine off at DBR.
I called 1st and talked with John a very nice fellow.
He answered my questions and said to bring it on over and they would store it until they could get the parts in and do the work.
Called a neighbor to meet me so I would have a ride back home and off I went.

Met up with John at DBR, filled out some paper work and we went over what I wanted done.

QTP (Quick Time Performance)
.: QTP - Standard QTEC :.

I went with the (Low Profile Electronic Cutouts)
.: Quick Time Performance :.

OvalCutouts_Banne1r.jpg

And also their (QTEC Wireless Remote Controller Kit)

980_Wireless_Banner.jpg

The other thing I wanted them to do was (Relocate) my (Oil Catch Can).

That's what's been going with me for the past few days guys.
I'll be sitting tight waiting for a call from DBR next week to come get it.

Hello all,

Well I decided to finally do a complete detail on the Bullitt ~~~
I need to do this too! I think we both have the same [FONT=&quot]welded-in BMR HD boxed Subframe Connectors which you placed the stands under the front of, but what did you lift under with the jack? - the k-frame?

Thanks!

Palerider,

I placed the jack under the front of the welded in sub-frame connector on each side.
Lifted one side and then did the other side.
Very easy to do and also did the same thing in the rear lifting under the rear sub-frame connectors.
I placed the jack close to the ends of the connectors front and rear.

It made it really easy to clean everything underneath as well as completely cleaning the brake calibers and inside all the wheels.
Simply turn the wheel and stick your hand between the spokes.
Takes time and patience but well worth it looking at the final results.

I found a better picture for you I think.

WOW !!!
Man you sure know how to do an excellent post buddy.
Congratulations on a Super Nice Mustang.

Man the detailing kicked my Ole butt as in both my hands & fingers.
I think after giving it some more thought I know why.
I was laying on my back doing the underneath for sometime.
Then I did each one of the 4-wheels inside & out.
Then did the whole outside the car to clean it.
Then applied the Meguiar's wax to it.
Then finally removed the wax from it.
So I was using my fingers for all day long in awkward positions for the most part.
Good thing is my hands & fingers got over the soreness the very next day.
So it was all worth it in the end.

Thanks for the compliment my good man.

Terry

Wow Terry, looks awesome! Tell David over at DBR I said hi. Weather permitting, the first Saturday in April, you and I need to thunder into Cars and Coffee with our cutouts wide open LOL.

Can't wait to give your car a listen! I'll bring the chairs and hopefully we can find a shady spot.

Tim,

This time I did not see David just John.
David is the one that gave me the full walk through a few years ago.
In-fact DBR was who I was going to get to do the Coil Over's.
But as it turned out Brent had the Bullitt up North and said to just send them the Coil Over's and the new 305/35-20" M/T tires.
So with Brenspeed doing their thing I never had a reason to drop back by DBR Performance.

Then when I 1-day dropped by Lexpro in Franklin off Columbia HWY and met the owner Jon.
He had used DBR for several of his cars.
The wild GTO & his SS Camaro.
He was very well pleased with everything DBR had done and thought their pricing was fair.

So when I was over at Lexpro and Jon had the GTO up in the air he showed me his last few changes to it.

One was the new Power-Glide Tranny.
The other was the QTP Electric Cut-Outs.
The Cut-Outs to me were really impressive.
He had done them himself .........

So in talking with him about them he said I should get them done.
But he also said I should get DBR Performance to do them so they would be done professionally.
That way the welds etc. would be just so-so ..........

Taking Jon's suggestion and advise I called DBR and talked to John about having them do the work.

Then I thought the darn Oil-Catch-Can also needed to be Relocated for sure.

John and I discussed it and I like what he had to say so they are also going to take care of that.

I will try my best to say Hello to David for you when I get the call to come get the Mustang.

I'm thinking maybe this coming week sometime that will take place.

And yes, we can definitely get together and drive over to Cars & Coffee for sure.

I was going to go this past Saturday but the Mustang honestly looked like crap underneath and outside.

I had not Detailed it since Brent & George had delivered it back to me a few months ago.

It was certainly way overdue IMHO.
