Previous owner broke a lug stud and I was attempting to replace it. New stud purchased at O'reilly is Dorman and the shoulder of it won't fit in the axle. Knocked out another stud as a sample and went to every parts store and everyone sells Dorman and they all hand me the same stud as what I have. Surely someone beside me has replaced a rear stud on these cars. Any suggestions?

Front and rear studs are different according to Rock Auto. Dorman seems to be your only reasonable option. Part number 610290. Front is 610523.

Yes, I've looked them up, there are Ford original replacements available but they have to be ordered and a little, actually very pricey for a lug stud.
I machined the Dorman stud to fit, had to cut the shoulder in front of the knurl down to fit in the axle. Stud was about .126 longer so I cut it down to match.
I'm old and have worked on cars now for over 60 years. Sad world when you can't buy a standard part like a lug stud for a good selling common American car and have it fit. I feel bad for anyone trying to make their living working on cars today.
