I am thinking about a KB Stage 2 blower for my '05. I plan to add good rods and pistons to my OE crank and run the blower at ~12 psi. I will upgrade the oil pump too. Also will add higher capacity oil pan and windage/crank scrapper. I will do an oil cooler too while I'm in there. Everything else should remain stock.

No plans to run slicks or spin it past the stock redline. Aside from a clutch upgrade that I expect, what else might need attention? If the tranny goes, I'll do a ProMotion rebuild. Supposed to be good for 700hp. But I'll worry about that when/if I need too.

Secondly, what is the max psi you can safely run on 93 octane common pump gas?

Looking for real world experience and opinion from those that have the setup.

Thanks guys.

I don't know much about the KB but as far as boost with a twin screw, it really depends on the timing used. I'm at 17 degrees of timing and 15psi of boost with my e-force. Lito doesn't really want me going any higher on pump gas but he said I could go to the next pulley if I knock a little timing out.

As for the trans, if I can get it out safely, I'll have a 26 spline input shaft that I might sell from my 3650 since I have switched to a 4R70W. from what I can see the splines on the shaft still look great. The input shaft is really the only thing that needs to be upgraded in the 3650 to handle 12-15 psi of boost. I beat the living crap out of mine and got over 125k miles out of it.

if you want to stay safe I would not go past 13-14 lbs

I don't plan on going above 15psi on 93, but I am also sticking with stock compression.

I want to stay at or close to 12 psi. Plus/minus a little bit (like 10%) is ok.

I have run 17-18#'s on my car but the timing is at around 14* using 93 Octane. At the track, I put in the race tune with 23-24* of timing and C16.

If it's available you should really try a lower octane fuel as your race fuel. I don't know how much boost you're pushing at the track but for me staying at 15psi I get my best times when running the Sunoco 100 unleaded fuel with around 22 degrees of timing. I have tried the 110 sunoco leaded as well as the 112 sunoco leaded both of which don't give me as much power. The lower octane fuel actually has more energy and burns faster so in essence you want to run the lowest possible octane you can without detonation.

Sorry to go off topic.

We tune the car with C16 and detune it for the street. The choice of C16 is by the builder's recommendationfor safety of the motor.

On Topic.

I have run my cars on pump with 15#'s and 15* timing without issue in Florida. I don't beat the crap out of my cars, but I do get on them every so often.

I would add some type of good heat exchanger to go with it. These make a lot of heat, so anything to keep the heat down is best. You dont have to get the afco w/ dual fans as the bare afco h/e works great. The one that comes with the KB kit is sooo small.

I also wouldn't go past 14-15psi if your going to be running 93 (safely). I run mine @ 17psi on pump fuel but it depends on how safe you want to be. Just have a great tune.

Also, when you say upgrade the oil pump, do you mean upgrade to the billet gears?

And of course the obvious ARP hardware (connecting rods, heads, etc). You should be fine with stock tty bolts but its better to be safe

I second the cooling. I am setting up the afco H/E on mine and its nuts how small the stock one is. That with a bigger i/c tank and a meth kit is letting me run 12psi with less than the normal risk.

+2 upgrade the stock KB heat exchanger if you're planning on more boost than the stock kit is made for. It's a hot system as it is and more boost is just gonna make it worse unless you do something to address the issue.

Bigger IC tanks are fine but will also heat soak eventually. The upgraded HE is more important IMO.

If you're dong engine upgrades, also opt for ARP head studs. The stock tty's can stretch under boost.

If you do get the KB, we'll welcome you to the KB club!

If you take the fuel pump route, less CR and more boost works best.

Get a set of manley 14cc pistons and do your own version of an aluminator with 8.7:1.

Been running 11.7 lbs for two years at 19* timing totally stock KB kit totally stock engine and trans and clutch pushing 530rwhp. No problems. Tired of waiting on it to blow as I have tried so hard! Finally put a 15lb pulley on it, loaded the race tune and 110 octane at 23*! Yes it put a rod through the block! lmao Now the wife cant bitch bout pulling a perfectly good working engine!

Thanks guys.

I ran 21 psi with 17* timing on 93 octane for a while. Car made a tad over 700 rwhp and lasted all the way until a fuel pump went out.

Edit: Engine was a 302 stroker with 9.3:1 compression. Stock Compression should be safe around 17 psi. Only thing to remember is when you up the boost that old saying of "To play you have to pay".

I am looking at the liquid cooled version of the KB. Are you looking at the same one? I didn't see them on their website so I emailed them about it. That's why I ask.

The smallest LC is 2.8. That's Mammoth level for the 4.6 engine.
