APR front splitter/diffuser w/o Support Rods

Are the rods really necessary? I really want a front splitter for the Saleen bumper and like the APR one a lot except the rods.

I know they are functional but to what extent? I've seen them attached to the bumper thats holding the splitter itself so that seems very counter intuitive. I feel that if its not protruding out a lot, it wont need it?

Put the rods on or take the splitter off. Small splitters can still produce a lot of downforce at highway speeds and that force is going to be put through that splitter and into the bumper cover and what attaches it. Those tension rods are designed to keep the front bumper cover and the splitter from coming off the car by putting the load into the bumper support.

I don't have support rods on my 2007 splitter and it's gone over 200.

Wind tunnel test show that on a S197 with the lower grill blocked, every 1" of splitter is worth 100lbs of downforce at 180mph.

How far in front of the chin spoiler does it go? What is the splitter made of?

carbon fiber composte, looks like it sticks out about 3~4"

Finally got a response from an Apr rep. and states that it "depends" how it's mounted.

If it's just bolted on to the bottom of the bumper skin it could pull the bumper throughout time...

How else would you mount it then?

I felt it was cheesy to mount the rods to the plastic bumper, so I went with their long rods and bolted a 3/4" aluminum angle piece to the actual bumper (tough material to drill holes into) to bring a mount point into the lower bumper opening.

Build brackets behind the fascia bolted to something more substantial

Darren (user name Ultracla$$ic on the forum) had a pretty trick way of mounting his splitter rods. I think (keyword THINK) he had them bolted to the radiator cross member somehow, going through the "honeycomb" in the lower grill.
