Hahahaha. Don_W's was quite a long time ago, and it wasn't a 5.0.

Unless you found him under a rock somewhere, and he bought a 5.0, installed a blower and some dynatech cats again.

this has been happening since 2005 actually. I blew 3 sets of bassani cats in 1 month. Finally got the hint to go off road.

You couldn't convince me to run cats with F/I on any V8. Not the ones available right now anyway.

But yeah, a quick search of these forums would reveal the multitude of times this has been discussed.

I have seen burned up exhaust valves and piston chunks end up in other cylinders but its hard to imagine converter substrate making it all the way up the headers and into a cylinder though. Anything is possible I guess, but generally if you melt the converters and clog the exhaust the engine will just start losing power, all the backpressure and charge contamination just kills power and actually cools the combustion chamber.

If you melt a piston first, lose compression in that cylinder then the unburned fuel from that cylinder lights the converter off and melts sounds like a more reasonable explanation.

Either way if you are worried about it make sure your a/f is correct at WOT, you have no misfires at WOT or just ditch the cats..

I have the stock cats and see no reason to take them off.

They have cats on Ford GTs, GT500s, ZR1s, CTS-Vs and they are all over 500hp and supercharged.

Same here. Would never remove my stock cats unless I had to. The lion's share of the failures are custom tuned cars with aftermarket converters.
