I wrote in the JDM forum but I think I'll just give them a call right now.

...Wonder if it helps a N/A car any?

I have an NA car. After reading this I tried venting the crank case and the heads, both together and seperatly. All opening were covered with filters. I made 8 pulls with no changes to tuning. There was no changes to my peak HP or TQ. Doug was the last person to tune my car, so I didn't want to mess with it.

I did notice that on a street test, the motor sounds to have recovered faster from bouncing off the rev limiter during 1-2 and 2-3 power shifting. I am going to take it to the track to test that idea next Wednesday. Should be interesting if I can see an improvement at the track.

I noticed the engined had a slight sound change too. The change was very small, but I sounded like it was not working as hard to make the same power...if that makes sence.

Put a call into JDM and they discouraged it until I told them how much more tq and hp I got out of doing that. I guess it can lean the fuel out a bit because it would be like having a vaccuum leak. I didnt notice a big change in my A/F doing this. If it causes fuel mixture problems then I would assume its just in drivability. Boosting the motor only pushes the pressure out the hole. JDM pointed me to Metco

and there it is

I dont see it benefiting an N/A car because you arent putting a ton more air into the engine.

Same here. It was more for the sake of "what if" kinda testing. I have the ability to dyno my own car and I'm not working today. It was fun to try it out to see what happens anyway...

Gotcha.

Ordered. I already know for a fact this will help but I will overlay some dynocharts with the cap on and the breather on when it gets here.

Cool, Thanks fo getting this out. Once I get the Saleen installed, I will want to do some mods like this to help the car make better power.

aswome info Dex, please keeep us up to date. My dyno time isnt for another 15 days, i may get a breather as well just to make comparisons on the dyno.

Was the dyno you were using load based? (ie. mustang dyno)

Did you do a PCV delete? If so, you may want to think about a crankcase evac pump, like the LT1 boys run. I could see how you would generate a BUNCH of pressure with a boosted motor and the stock "PCV" setup. If I were doing that sort of motor, I would run scavenger lines from the driver's valve cover over to a catch can, then plumb the output of the can through a vacuum pump, and hang a filtered breather on the passenger side valve cover. Plug the inlet air tube nipple and the intake manifold nipple as well, obviously.

If I remember correctly someone on this site installed a GM vacuum pump and did the before and after dyno pulls, no change. I agree breathers are the way to go, as I had trouble with my oil separator earlier this year and eliminated the setup.

I did the catch can on the drivers side and the breather on the pass side and the breather was soaked in oil in 300 mi . This was with out the vac. pump though.

my car has breathers...well remote breathers..same concept...both side plumbed to a catch can with a breather. If you do both sides you will be fine.
Mine is remotely located to prevent oil mist on the motor...you can get a look at it here

I know Moroso makes a breather katcher tube thing that alot of high hp 5.0's run and its crazy seeing the pressure come out of the breather. I asked if they make it for our years and they do. I am going to look into it when i have some extra money after spending some on my Canton overflow tank and battery relocation stuff.

But if a breather will free up power. I want to prove this., I will go to my buddies dyno next week, Keep ya posted

Already proved! But would still love to see a few different dyno runs with overlays.

Metco shipped it today

1 car isnt proof. proof is repeated results over many different cars and setups. I hope it works though
