umm no. just some random video i found on street fire

That is some funny stuff though. My Dad is an attorney (no not a rich boy , my old man is tight he squeeks when he walks) and told me I shouldn't waste my time and money on such things ( fast cars), that is until I took him for a ride. We had made a couple of blocks and he said "would you mind if I drove a bit?" Now I get hit up to let him drive it to the golf course.

I saw on here something about a p/s bypass belt. There was an extra belt in the trunk when I got the car, it seemed new so I was going to replace the belt that came on the car, but the extra belt was much too short. Could this be one of those belts? no such luck, huh........lol.

How can I tell if that is what it is. Oh by the way, of all my friends that have the new mustangs, only the ones that have superchargers can out run me and from a dead stop its pretty close up to about 80 or 90 and then they start pulling away. I think I found a diamond in the rough.

My Dad and Uncle used to race my grandmothers 65 fastback 289. They actually destroyed the transmission in that car. (Whole other story) My uncle it took til the end of 2nd and I think my dad lasted til about mid 4th before they started shouting woe. It's amazing how far they've come in 45 years. And that was when my car was bone stock.

Hmm, seems to me that if it just hooked and went you wouldn't be considering new rear springs.
Don't confuse trying launch from a dead stop on the track, with a 2nd gear rolling punch on the street. Big difference...

Funny thing is. He had an 1982 Mustang GT the first year (I think) of the 5.0. It was a 302 V8 with a 2brl carb and he thought that car was fast as hell, which back in the day it probably was (I was only 12 when he purchased the car). The first time he drove my car (stock) he was like "this is about as fast as the one I had". Well I think I change his point of view. Not that, that was what I was looking for, but you have never riden in an 11 second car until you have riden in an 11 second car.

Dude, my dad owned the same car... A whopping 155hp I believe... :LMAO:

but yeah, people might say stuff like that about S197s twenty years from now if we don't make emissions so strict we can't turn our cars on.

I emailed a link to this thread to my dad. I hope he sees the humor in it. About a year ago (the car was still mostly stock) we went for a ride to Best Buy and he got angry at me when I tried to race someone. About 6 months later (turbo'd) I took him for a ride, and we did a 2nd + 3rd gear pull, but this time he was ready for it. I think he hated it a little less since he was prepared for it this time. Ironically he has a 600+hp Steeda tuned Supercharged FFR Cobra, that he drives pretty hard, so I dont know why he gets scared when I'm driving... hmm... :)

Next time he visit, the motor will be built and the boost doubled. That should be a good ride.

Well....I'm GIJosh28's dad. My first Mustang was a '65 2+2 GT convertible, the real 271hp deal. Next I had a '67 coupe, 289 3-speed. Then a '69 Mach I, 4-speed, and then a '73 Mach I slush-o-matic. In between several 'vettes, and a Porsche.

Now, in the garage is an FFR Shelby. Actually registered as a '65 Shelby convertible. Mill is a built and blown 302 turning 535 dyno's hp at the wheels (we shut it down at 5800 rpm). The wee beastie weighs in at 2100 lbs, and is 0-60 in 2.9. Cruises the 1/4 in the mid 10's on street rubber. We fear no 'vettes, and turbo'd Porsches we refer to as "lunch."

And yup, when my kids take me for a ride in their rides, it scares the crap outta me. I guess 'cause I'm not in control. Of course, the Cobra also scares the crap outta me, but therein lies the fun. I'm 64 and don't need no stinkin' stress test at the pill-pushers, I just take the Cobra out for a ride.

Keep it in the middle of the road....Frank.

Welcome to the forum Josh's Dad!
First one is on me. :bigbeer:
Did he ever tell you what color his car is? I believe Ford lists it as "Gay Gray" but he seems to like it.

You sound like my dad...he had all sorts of Mustangs back in the day...65, 66, 68, 69, and a 73? fastback. 'Cept now the fastest thing he's got is a Pacifica and when I get him in my GT he just tells me to slow down or I will get a ticket. Don't know what happened to him.

Anyway, welcome to the forum. :hi::beer:

Sounds like you need to step up and join the rest of us! Built motor twin turbo's and 700+rwhp might be enough to do the job.
