Just purchased an 08 GT/CS 5spd, and am noticing an annoying drivline vibration. It is most noticeable around 30-35 mph, and feels like a rumble strip or helicopter in the distance. Anyone have any ideas?

I'll probably get it in soon to have it looked at. I once had a Nissan 240SX that had a similiar vibration, and it turned out to be a sticky u-joint....

^Check the drive shaft loop that holds the drive shaft up. Sometimes the 2 bolts that hold that loop to the floor pan shimmy loose, especially if it's ever been pulled out. While you're down there, check for any torn boots or leaking seals. The noise could be coming from the trans, rear end, exhaust, etc, as well.

Ummm... the carrier bearing loop was tight. Not sure if that's what you mean. No signs of rubbing or torn boots. Well I've done all I can do for quick checks. The brakes are not dragging, and the tires look to have no flat spots. Wheels are tight and tire pressures are ok. Off to the dealer I guess....

Will do.

Being a former tech, I suspect there will be some hand holding going on with this one, to avoid the dreaded "cannot duplicate customer complaint." I am going to see if I can ride with the tech to point it out, then discuss what I looked at. My gut says it's something in the driveshaft assembly, or maybe rearend. We'll see how I make out.....

I had a pretty decent drivetrain vibration around a certain rpm, i got under the car looked around and there was a big rock lodged between the drivers cat heatshield and the "frame" I removed it and that was the issue

This is not tied to rpm, just speed. Push in the clutch and it's still there...

So I rode with a tech from the dealer today. Couldn't find a road to go slow enough on, and he was getting impatient. So they checked it out and found no issues, except the carrier bearing loop was slightly off-center. Thet adjusted it and I brought it home. It's a tad quieter, but still there. Anyone know if the driveshaft assembly is indexed? Found out that the transmission had been out (3000 miles, WTF?) for a bad synchro.

I'm wondering if the shaft assembly might be out of phase. Also, they are telling me the warranty is up in November, but wouldn't the powertrain warranty cover this type of thing? My book says 5/50K powertain....

My car makes the same kind of noise, although it doesnt go away with speeding up or slowing down. Let me know if they fix it under the powertrain warranty my bumper to bumper expired last month.

Went back to the dealer again. I asked that they drive it for a while, because there IS a problem here. I'm leaving for for a few days until I get some type of reasonable answer. I am not going to give up on this - I'll drag Ford in if need be.....I really hate dealerships sometimes.

Well after nearly a week at the dealer, I have some success, they acknowledge there is an issue. They are trying to see about getting the ok for a new driveshaft. I'll update when I hear something about what was accomplished.....

I had a vibration like that. It showed up after the rear gears were changed. It felt like it was under the front seats (where the carrier bearing is). They re-indexed the driveshaft at the rear axle pinion flange and it disappeared.

The vibration at ~35 MPH is gone, but I still have a very slight 'roughness' happening at exactly 60 MPH (4.10 gears).

The dealer claims Ford will pay for a new driveshaft, but if it doesn't fix it, they will own it. So they swapped one from a lot car to make sure. Supposedly the vibration went away with the other shaft assembly installed. A new one is on the way. We'll see how I make out when the part gets here.....

Picked up the car today, and it appears all is good. No vibes on the ride home, thank god. Took almost 2 weeks of being without my car, but it was worth it.....
