Here is a picture of mine (when I had the mod motor). I went with some Grade 8 bolts/washers/nuts.

Very very nice setup! How does the car turn with the manuel rack now? Obviously a little harder at a stop, but any different while moving. How bad is it without the power steering?

Also, what outer tie rod ends did you use? for some reason when i ordered it i was thinking it would come with them, apparently misread jpc's site

That is a sweet setup for sure! I would say that's the way to go if the car is not a daily driver.

I don't have a problem turning at all except in very tight spaces when the car is not moving (like parking lot for example), but keep in mind I also have skinnys up front. If you had a 285/40 up front I imagine the effort to turn in tight spaces would be pretty tough.

Also pictured is how my flaming river rack came, it did have the tie rod ends, but not the second piece that you screw the tie rods into (is that the outer tie rod?). Also don't forget the special u-joint you need to hook up to the stock steering linkage.

yeah thats what i meant, the outer piece that screw onto it. I got the u joint when i ordered the rack so im good there.

FYI grade 8 rockwell applies to sae fasteners. The metric equalivent will be 10.9.

thanks bruce, i actually realized tonight when i was looking at the a arms that steve sent a set of bolts that im assuming came off the car when he took the bmr k off, however they were alittle too large to fit through the holes in the rack. Just going to stop by lowes and get some new bolts.

I ran into this on mine, I drilled out the mounts on the rack. I drilled them just big enough so they fit snug. The tire rods off the old rack will work. I used new Moog tie rods on mine.

Thanks for the info, i thought about drilling out the mounts on the new rack as i figured it wouldnt hurt anything but decided id rather spend a few bucks and just get new bolts. My luck id somehow screw up the rack. Were the moog tie rod ends just stock replacements?

i tried new bolts, but the size that fit the rack seemed a little to loose in the K-member to me. I was a little worried the rack may shift and knock out the alignement.

Well went to lowes and like you said the next smaller bolt they stock was alot smaller or grade 5. Guess ill just drill the rack holes, actually seems like they just catch where the 2 halves of the bracket meet. Also talked to jpc and they said they use the bumpsteer kits so may go that route or just throw the stockers back on for the moment. Really not sure the benefit of the bumpsteer.

The bumpsteer kits may weigh a few ounces less. The Moogs are heavier than the oe for sure.

For drag racing, they're not worth it. But, if you do a lot of cornering or it's a daily driver, bump-steer kits help in the handling department. Even stock, there's some bump-steer in the geometry.
