It is indeed a sick car. It used to race in the GT3 series over in Europe.
Just look at the motors in these bad boys!

Looks like they cut all the fenderwell out, the screens are probably just to prevent junk from flying up into the engine bayI wonder what is up with the screens on the strut towers????
Its to help pull air out of the engine bay so the front end will stay planted. With the air going past the tyre it should form a venturi in the engine bay hence pulling air out. At least in theory it should work like that but I may be wrong.
I was thinking that had to be it. But I see a lot of race cars put louvers through the fenders (above the tire) to vent the pressure built up by the spinning tire. I would think that the spinning tire/wheel well would be the high pressure zone and the engine compartment the lower pressure zone.
Of course that is irresponsible speculation.
I wish I had a aerodynamicist that I could ask these questions. Getting my car to go 225mph in the standing mile is going to be all aero. I want as many bites at the apple as possible.
I wish I had a better pic of that engine strut tower brace. Thats cool! Looks pretty easy to make!
The back side of the fenders seems to be a giant outlet for air.
