Idle hangs, no mods, no CEL

But Brian is right. My Coyote was rough-idling and dying out of nowhere and it turned out that the drop-in filter had a tear along one of the sides so it wasn't sealed. That little amount of turbulence was enough to cause those issues but not throw a CEL.

I was relieved but also peeved. I had a leak-down test done, had the MAF and TB cleaned and it turned out to be a torn filter.

I get yah man, I got to wait till Wednesday when I have access to the scanner to check my car for pending codes cause nothing is triggering a cel yet. I'll check my air filter anyway just in case.

Well, cleaned the MAF, the throttle body and checked the air filter for fitment, didn't change a thing.


What did work was I bought a JLT S3 CAI and Stinger catbacks, so i needed to buy a tuner, Bought a used DiabloSport Predator Tuner and had DiabloSport create a tune that would work with my mods AND lower the Dashpot settings (dashpot settings determine how fast the RPM's drop once you take your foot off the Acelerator pedal and put the Trans in Neutral or press the clutch in)

They lowered the Dashpot settings in baby steps and after the second attempt at modifying the setting, the RPMs drop to my liking now.


I feel like the underlying problem are the electronics bolted to the sides of the throttle body, while the Tune worked out, I feel like if I had a new throttle body, i probably wouldnt have had this issue to begin with. I read somewhere online and they referred to this issue as "Dashpot Degradation".

Well, I fixed it the hanging idle problem and I also fixed my high idle.

I had done a light cleaning of the TB a couple months ago when all these idle hang and high idle issues arose. I decided to remove the TB and clean it thoroughly to a mirror finish and the idle ended up being higher. Idle RPMs went from 780's before any cleaning to 1000 after the light cleaning to finally 1100-1200 rpms after the deep cleaning.

I had this idea so i took out my 9mm socket and turned that throttle plate set-screw counter clockwise about a half turn while the engine was running, then i cleared the CEL and 10 seconds later the idle FINALLY dropped for the first time in months to 780-794 range!!! Drove it to work (50 Miles) and idle is still spot on... time for a celebration
