For an experiment a while back, I put my stock mufflers back on in place of my boomtubes. I have Kooks LT w/ catted H. With boomtubes this setup is very loud. But with the stock mufflers, it was very quiet. Louder than stock but actually not by that much. But I put the boomtubes back on because while it sounded VERY good from the outside, on the inside it was almost silent and I like loud on the inside. :) But even from the outside it's rather quiet and would not disturb any one I think.

If you remove your headers, you'll be seriously limiting the gains from new cams.

If I could find a muffler that keeps the tone of the stockers but is about twice as loud as the stockers that would be cool. I've never had an issue with the stocker's tone - only volume. Of course I have an auto which supposedly has even quieter muffs. I love my boomtubes but they're crazy loud when the midpipe changes to O/R or high-flow cat.

Take a hole saw with a long extension on a drill through the tailpipe and report back. lol. It might work..

I have the 127500, as far as the idle it is very mild, just a slight lope, as for the drivablity, it was not very good, lost lots of low end power, Until I got a tune from BBR, now it drives very close to stock, it does buck a little if I drop below 1,000 rpms, from 1500 rpm and up, like stock.... never had a code for anything other then cat eff. I would think the 127400 with a BBR tune would do what you want.. although before I purchase cams, I would pick US-1 mind, as he hinted he has other cams he likes....... Have you tried a mail order BBR tune for your Hot Rods?

I don't get why people like emailed tunes??? There is nothing wrong with the frpp hot rod cams. You need a custom dyno tune. Not some tune that is used on a variety of set ups and the just copy it and load it to your tuner. Dyno tune will be spot on and will be able to get the most hp and best driveability. I have the hot rod cams in my Stang and it drives great. Yeah it is jumpy below a 1000 rpm but that is as to be expected. They are higher lift cams and whoever puts them in should already now that. Plus for $800 it's a great way to pick up 30 hp.

Because everyone doesn't live next to Brenspeed, BBR, AM, Bama, or any other "Trustworthy" tuner!! some of us are stuck with an "email tune" or a very long drive!!!!!

you took the words right outa my mouth. 4hrs is a long drive in my opinion. plus I cant get off work right now.

My AM Chris Rose tune has perfect drive-ability with my hot rods. The Brenspeed tune was pretty good, but had some cold engine weirdness and coasting weirdness. Not only does my Chris Rose tune drive perfectly, but it pulls harder than it ever did and no more below 3500 rpm weakness then sudden surge of power (I have the 93 Race tune BTW). I also do NOT get the flashing O/D light with his tune.

My Brenspeed tune had the flashing O/D, but they fixed it. I guess there's more than one way to fix it, but a simple single value change is what did it for me with the Brenspeed tune. I don't know how Chris Rose fixes this, but it's fixed. :)

Also cleaning the crap out of my TB and MAF cleared up some idle issues I had previously. I need to see if a dirty TB/MAF was the reason my BBR tune could not hold idle. It most likely is but I have not tried my BBR tune again in months.

One weird thing I had with my Brenspeed tune is when I would coast slowly (like 20mph lets say) shortly after I let off the gas the RPM would fall to idle. Kind of like coasting with the clutch pushed in in a manual. Then when I'd get back on the throttle, I'd have to wait for the engine to "wind up" until it started to go again at 1500+ rpm or somewhere around there. So trying to maintain a slow speed caused this weird up and down with the RPM. I'm sure anyone around me thought I was retarded or something making the engine do that. But, the Chris Rose tune does not fall like that and the RPMs stay up where you'd expect. The only time they go down to idle is when I'm stopped. Much better behavior and response.

glad the CR AM tune is working for you. I need to call them. still not happy with my JDM HR tune. I can feel my tranny "clunk" while its in drive coming to a stop in 2nd and in 1st gear. these trannys dont shift off vacum....right?

I have a "clunk" in mine too on deceleration from the 2nd to 1st shift. Someone told me it's the torque converter unlocking.

It's just my opinion, but I don't think people should perform the more serious mods where a dyno tune is the way to go unless they have a way to get it done. I drove 600 miles one way when I got my stuff done, because I would not do it without a dynotune. Had to wait about 4 months longer than I wanted because of that, but I didn't want to be one of those guys opening a complaint thread a week after my work was done either. Easy choice to make in my opinion.

no thats not what Im feeling....the downshift to 2nd and 1st gears arent smooth....I have always felt the car downshift in the low gears but now its not smooth? sometimes it ok and others its not. I think it depends on vacum and with cams we loose a little vacum so????? I dont think these new trannys shift from vacum like the older autos did.

There is nothing wrong with email tunes esp with as much knowledge out there for tuning...the FRRP cams are made to work without a tune but obviously they will get the best gains out of them with a tune. I have used BBR's and Chris Rose's tune with the HR cams and they both work fine. With a NA car AF and timing are really the only things you need to "dial" in unless you have a lot of mods.

I've always had that clunk when it downshifts into 2nd. It doesn't have anything to do with cams. These trans do not operate off vacuum either.

The only time I have not seen the downshift clunk is when the trans tuning is at stock settings where it won't downshift until the RPMs are close to idle. This trans just doesn't like to downshift if the RPMs are too much above that it seems.

There's almost nothing any tuner could possibly improve on on my Chris Rose email tune, no matter who they are. The only thing is maybe A/F but that's assuming there's room for tweaking there. I don't know since I've never been on a dyno.

Plus like others have said, I'd have to drive pretty far to get dyno tuned and with where I'm at, there's no guarantee it would be any better than what I have. There is one shop fairly close to me but they do not tune mustangs any more. They prefer GM. But I was told by the owner that he is good friends w/ Jon Lund and I could have a remote tuning session with him there. I was seriously considering that when I was using my Brenspeed tune but I no longer feel I need to now after my AM Chris tune.

I have a stock rear and I clunk. :)

But I'm sure it's fine and not hurting anything since everyone else seems to have it as well. And it's been doing it for a long time and I have no issues.

You can get a better camshaft profile to work with the stock heads than that one. That is....if you know what you're looking at.

i feel these cams are better than thumprs or hot rods but thats just me.

I'm all for custom dyno tuning, but sometimes there just is no need. I've got logs from my mail order files before with perfect VCT, Spark Advance, Fuel Trims, and customer says driveability and power is perfect. The only thing that has to be hammered down perfectly is wide open throttle air/fuel ratio. Which most of the time is spot-on, but I can change with one good pull on a dyno with trusted wideband AFR results.

So, in other words, my customer gets a perfect tune for $50-75 dollars in tuning, and a $75 dollar set of dyno pulls. Compare that to a 250-450 dollar in-house dyno tune. Sometimes, the dyno tune is actually worse because they don't have enough experience with the setup, or they're 2v or 4v guys, they dont have access to drive-by wire, etc.

I've had many people preach about the custom dyno tuning, and occasionally I'll send em out an email tune for free just to see what they say. I've had quite a few people ditch their expensive dyno tune for a mail order calibration.
