I might have to order one to see how it fits.
Now which one to order: the 8 point or the 12 point???????

All that is needed is a fitting template and Chromoly can be done.

I'll probably have one of the local race shops build me a custom 8 point with chrom moly and removable swingouts. I'll do it at the same time as I have the car painted.

d00d, it's only a buck50. I wouldn't expect too much for that price

I was hoping they were going to have upgrade options. Since they already have the jig made for the bends they could easly offer a upgrade for the tubing and swing outs should be pretty simple as well..

Yeah, that is pretty cheap. The S&W race cars one in mild steel is $225. The mild steel is about 2.0lbs per foot, where as the chrome moly is 1.3lbs per foot. On an 8-point bar the weight savings wouldn't be that dramatic (25lbs) but on a 10/12 point cage it could be alot.

I have been wanting to try this but if it doesn't fit right---by the time the installer would adjust/rebend it--labor would get you and I am not sure how much you would save in the end.

I have priced several shops and a custom 8-point is about $1400. If I knew how to weld I would probably try the S&W one to see how it would fit.

is $1400 mild steel..? and is that with it painted..?

I'm going chrome moly since it will turn into a 10 or 12 point cage in the end.. Just not wanting the cage right now..

Yeah, thats a mild steel, painted set up. Chrome moly is $150 more, and swing outs are $175 more. Labor is the killer here---since I would be bringing them a car with a full interior--would be significantly less if you were to bring a race car with no interior. But all the shops were saying that at least they could make it as tight as you want--even have the rear bars high enough so you can't see them through the little rear side window--etc.

If I had welding equipment---I would try the S&W bar and save some cash.
