Happy New Year Jeff, did you get the hood painted yet? Are you going with the 2.8LC? Ken switched over to a Whipple 2.3HO set up.

Same to you Paul, more than likely going with the LC and I saw a couple threads he put up about it. No paint yet.

Aluminator is stock cubes
I know.

Regardless, I think my question in the OP has been answered about as precisely as it can be. And you know how I feel about truly high power on the street so Vapor Trail's commentary is probably spot on in my case. ;)

Regarding Bruce's linked thread. Sounds like 10psi is about the limit on pump gasoline if you want to be "safe".

FWIW, I am running a 2.6L standard KB with the ST Motorsports inlet and belt drive system at 17 pounds of boost. The car has a built 4R70W trans with a 3,800 stall converter. It made 610 RWHP on a pull with low miles on it. I would bet that it would make another 30 or 40 on it now. More importantly it ran 10.645 on its break-in run. The weather went to shit so I could not make the changes the car needed before track closed. I am sure the car has a 10.3 in it as it sits. My biggest worry is IAT's. On the 10.645 run my IAT was 190 at the end of the run. I am looking forward to seeing if the changes I made will get me what I want and hopefully reduce the IAT's. Is it Spring yet?

610 RWHP, stock engine/pump gas?

A bit of an ancillary question to this thread here. Has anyone had their car on the dyno with the KB 2.6 and the stage 1 setup (stock throttle body) and KB stock tune?

What kind of numbers did that produce? Going by their website it shows 501 crank. Minus 15% loss that is only going to make around 425-430?

From what I've been told that is a very conservative tune. The shop I was talking to said there is no problem making way more than a stock motor can handle.

Their website is confusing and I'm not sure I want to go off their numbers.

I'm asking the question because I intend to stay with their tune and setup until the engine 'splodes. Just looking for some idea of what rwhp I can expect in the real world with their "factory" stage 1 setup.

430 rwhp SAE sounds about right for the generic tune. My car always runs like crap with a generic tune, either puffing black smoke /smelling like raw gas rich or pinging lean. I got around 440rwhp SAE with a very conservative yet custom dyno tune. 5 years later, still running like new and waiting for it to blow up so I can go built and up the psi.

I'm also still happy with the 440, though a little more now with a lighter drive shaft and AL flywheel. Not really making more hp, just getting more to the rear wheels. It is still faster than 99.99% of all cars on the road.

Hey Brady! How are you? Where are you?

If you really want to up the boost let me know, I will drive the car for you while you are gone and help you on the blowing it up....

Good, Greg, check your PMs. That's OK, wife has already broken my daily driver to the tune of $200. Funny how I drove it for years with zero problems other than a blown light bulb.

I'm confused, are some people saying he can run 18-20 psi of boost with 93 octane and and a stock compression motor?

Riptide, you are at high elevation correct?

With stock compression I wouldn't personally go over 12psi on 93 even with a built engine. I know people do it and get away with it but I've read horror story threads on this board before.

I considered a custom dyno tune but my local tuner persuaded me not to do it. For the cost it wasn't going to be worth the gains considering I have a stock exhaust, cams, heads, etc..

430whp is what it is I guess. If that's all it makes with the stock KB tune then that's all it's gonna make. I'm a little disappointed I suppose but it's no big deal. If I want 450 that badly I can always try the stage 2 setup.

Here is a video my cousin made for me when I was offshore. This was back in May of 2005 when I got the Base Kit KB on my car. Car was stock except for KB @ 9 psi and Magnaflow catback. The tune that KB sent made that car run really weird and I got it custom tuned by my buddy Steve at Shreve's Automotive in New Orleans. Sorry for the retarded sounds as they were drinking before going get it dynoed. Car made 466 rwhp and 502 rwtq SAE Corrected on 9 psi.

Thanks man. So far I don't have any complaints (knock on wood) with the KB tune. Seems to run OK and driveability is fine so far. If he's making 9psi then he probably had the stage 2 throttle body on there I'm guessing. That would probably be the easiest way to get a small increase and push it over the 450 mark.

This was WAY before all the Stage 1 and Stage 2 crap. I had stock throttlebody with 3.75" upper pulley. My car was bone stock in that video except for KB and cat back system. This was also the last pull of the day and it was warm.
